The flaw, IMO, is the lack of anything between "just deal with it" and "campaign to have the offending person banned". Other forums DO have ignore features. This is something that is built into recent phpBB software. You can see an example of it at the Ars Technica forum. Over there, it's called the "friends and foes" feature. Anyone who you mark as a "foe" is automatically ignored, and their PMs blocked. Anyone set to "friend" can view your online status, and initiate chat sessions. It's a pretty cool feature, and IMO can be very useful.

Edit to add: here's a link to all the features available in the phpBB software

http://www.phpbb.com/about/...a6c077fe08#friendfoe

And BTW, it's freeware... open source.

This is correct. I had assumed it would go without saying. But I guess I was wrong. I will try to be more specific in the future.

Cool, perhaps you could go and build the "perfect" Fiero Forum.

Nothing personal man, but I see this type of stuff as an attack on Cliff. This is his Forum, he created it, and wrote the code for it. 20,000 members seem to think it's fine the way it is.

There is room for improvement in everything, but seriously you guys are here nearly 24-7, yet #$@! about how crappy the features are. Why are you still here if it's so bad?

Like I said, it's not personal, there are 3 people or so in a group of 20,000 that want a change, and scream about it at every chance. Let it go already.

So just because you think it's a cool feature, and PFF doesn't offer that feature, it's a "flaw in the system"?

So? You want me to switch to phpBB just because it offers an "ignore" option? Yeah, let's. Forget the fact there are tons of options available in the PFF software that aren't available in phpBB. Let's give them all up so you can have your ignore button.

There's absolutely nothing the phpBB software can do that my software can't. If the option is not available, it's because I chose to not have it available. That's not a flaw, it's a choice. The other way around, there are many, many things my software can do that the phpBB software can't. Not without installing a ton of mods anyway which all add to the instability of the phpBB software. I run another forum which is running on phpBB software. Even though it gets about 0.1% of the traffic PFF gets, I spend more time keeping that up and running than PFF.

Rrrrright. It goes without saying that you only agreed with part of his message.

PS: I don't need a button to "Ignore" this thread from now on.

I didn't want to start any problems with this thread, but it looks like a few have surfaced. It is common knowledge that I don't like Toddster, and he is the one I don't want in my threads. There is a thread I started about my grandson signing with the Miami Dolphins. He posted in that, but only to raise his post count, nothing more! I would much rather have some of the members he has driven off the forum than him here,at least they were honest. How do people achieve the level of self-importance that Toddster has assumed and still be able to communicate ?He must be as smart and important as he says he is ! Even with what I've said about Toddster, please don't turn this into a Toddster bashing thread.
