Ugh. Some people and their ideas about welfare. (Page 4/9)

And don't be so sure about that "democracy" in action regarding what they are allowed to teach. Seems to me there is a lot of sex ed and other things being pushed on kids and courts upholding it despite parental complaints.

Parents should educate their children on sex. They know they're going to experiment, why not make them ready so they don't get pregnant and ruin their lives before they get started. Schools are forced to address this problem because there are so many parents not doing their jobs. Then the kids end up on welfare with no prospects.

Get a job working nights. Simple.

Welfare desperately needs reform. There should be a 'poor house' available for those in need; but it should be very strict and regimented; checking in to receive assistance should mean giving up a lot of liberties. That would both reduce the cost burden on the tax base, and provide motivation for recipients to want to check out. There is nothing in the current system that encourages anything but further irresponsibility; and we wonder why welfare becomes a family tradition... dumb. And wasteful.

Really? I've yet to meet a liberal (this includes a couple of my friends, yeah we don't exactly see eye to eye. but were still friends) that didn't think that it's the governments job to take my hard earned money from me and give it to some slacker that won't earn it on their own!!! I don't have a problem with giving people that need a hand up help, it's the people that milk the system that really cheese me off!

The nine most terifiying words in the english language are,
I'm from the government, and I'm here to help. Joe

You are actually advocating that some one who will not try to earn their way deserves some of my money, and motorracer838's money, and jstrickers money, and buddycraigg's money, and etc's money..... ?
Why would we even try to earn money ? We could just sit back and get the money that you have.
You want to get ahead ? You can't. Every extra penny of yours goes to someone more lazy.

No not at all Cliff. My original point was just because there are some free loading people out that who call themselves liberals or democrats does not mean all "left wing" people think that way.

There are other issues besides welfare and taxes that put me left of center. Abortion is one, but that is another topic. Iraq is another. Most of it has to do with religion in schools. In my opinion I have a conservative view but somehow that has become liberal now.

Any sort of welfare should only be provided as a safety net to prevent normal, everyday people from falling through the cracks if they hit hard times. (think Katrina or the massive layoffs that are happening now) I think programs like SS, unemployment pay, food stamps, etc have been hugely manipulated. Its NOT that they are bad programs per se, its that they have been poorly managed and allowed to extend beyond a just time frame.

Anyone who thinks that they are entitled to tax payers dollars for fulfilling their own personal responsibility is nuts. As I stated earlier, if you cannot produce a product or provide a service you should not expect to receive an income.

Eew, now I'll have to go take a shower.

How about you people realize that just because some people don't huff the Karl Rove style of "The American Way", that doesn't make them automatic Socialists. I think anyone who is expecting a living to be paid for them squeezing out more population needs to have a rude awakening. Either that, or move to Sarah Palin's Alaska. $3200 smackaroos to every man, woman and child. If that isn't socialism, and an incentive to squeeze out more infants, then maybe someone can tell me what that is.

It isn't socialism. Its very capitalist. See the people of Alaska are renting out the land to the oil companies. It really isn't that hard to figure out.
