these people were not bums.
they were in their late 20's.
looked heathy
and spoke very clear english (which is rare in my part of town)

i've actually given bums money. i give one guy 20 bucks before and he didn't even ask for it.
i saw him while i was driving, turned around, went to an ATM, parked in a parking lot, and walked 1/2 block to give it to him.
that's a long story

but i can tell you of at least 5 times where i've given people money that was a scam.
i've simply stopped doing it.

Buddy,
The fact is your first answer should have been sufficient but folks seeking donations always take one shot on your way in and a second shot on your way out. In that there was an additional comment made by them shows their class and attitude. You were and are under no obligation to "give" any money. I would never tell someone that I did or didn't have the money to donate, that's the # 1 answer that people use that really means go away, you're bothering me. It's actually, none of their business. When I am in that situation and am not interested in donating I simply respond with a no thank you and keep walking.

Good then you need to start carrying a 45 semi automatic too because the kind of attitude you displayed will cause more problems than it is worth... As simple smile and a reiteration of the word NO and maybe an addition of I dont have it would likely avoided the whole thing.

Holy Crap?! Is it that big of a deal?

A lady asked me for a ride cuz hers broke down, I said no and had no place to hurry to, I was in a 'lower-class' area which is why i said no. Anyone wanna discuss how I handle that situation?

Obviously you should not only have offered to give her a ride, but give her your car as well. By not giving her your own possessions, and not taking the time to stop and tell a story why you can't give her a ride, you are just asking for trouble. [/sarcasm]

Nope... I'm not joking. I don't talk to people with my back turned to them, it's simply arrogant and disrespectful to do so.

I prefer to stop and look people in the EYES and say "no, sorry but I don't have it." the first time.
If I need to say it twice, I'll say it twice just to give the benefit of the doubt to them and make it perfectly clear.

This is just my opinion / advice. Take it or leave it but I've never been threatened the way buddy was.
