V8 Archie Dyno Vid (Page 31/45)

I would assume the transmission failure rate goes up exponentially with the torque a V8 is making. Crate LM1s are far less likely to break something than a properly built "377".

This thread went south with Archie's 1st post. Archie, you could for once take the high road and explain things in a logical friendly manner. You would be amazed how differently people would treat you on the internet if you did. The whole 377-350-305 thing is ridiculous. I was asking an honest question on page 1.

I like every engine swap. The fastest car I've ever been in to date was a 406 fuel injected sbc fiero formula which blew my mind. 3rd gear power slides like nothing. He put it on a dyno and put down 375hp. I should also note that before dyno tuning he was making quite a bit less hp. I love cars, and I love big hp. I don't care how many cylinders a car has as long as its fast.

I was honestly amazed that a 377 engine was putting down 230hp. I watched the video and saw black smoke which made me think that its just not tuned properly. Not a big deal, with some dyno time it could make its full potential. Instead we find out that its not really a 377 but a joke on shaun? Talk about drama....

Glad this made it to the trash where it belongs.

I believe it should have been put here when the title of the video was read by Cliff. This has been nothing more than an attempt to get a flame war going from the start. If you want to be the best and bash others buy a firebird or a honda, we fiero people dont act that way.

One of us is stoned. Maybe both of us. Sorry I didn't recognize the car, I don't get Archie's newsletters.

The question you should really be asking is how many ISUZU transmissions and how many GETRAG transmissions has Tina blown apart? All of the blown ones I've seen her post about were Isuzus, out of 4 cylinder Fieros. She got tired of blowing them up and switched to the stronger Getrag. I'm not saying the Getrag is indestructible, especially with nearly 20 years on them, but so far I haven't heard of her blowing one up.

But with any transmission, when you've got some nearly 20 years old and well over 100k miles, you're going to have a higher failure rate - even on stock engines.

Im sorry, but I forgot, how many of these have you done again?

Don't tell me you feel special doing the exact same mods that people have been doing to cars since the 30's.

Split that hair if you must. I don't know if Tina has nuked one yet, but I know its been done. I had the chance to meet Orville once while he was in the middle of putting an automatic in his LS1 car because he destroyed his Getrag the first time he got on it hard. Regardless, the exact number wasn't my point. Rather, it was that people who put powerful V8s against FWD trannies break them or are afraid to (ask CaliKid).

That's a pretty substantial hair to split.

You can ask FieroX about that, too. With enough power or abuse any transmission will fail. The point was that Tina was going through Isuzus like they were paper, but the Getrag is significantly stronger. She's got one of the more powerful V8's on here using a Getrag, and hasn't reported any problems yet, to my knowledge.

Remember, we are dealing with 15-20 year old trannies. Start with a freshly rebuilt one, and your chances are much better. Slap a junk yard tranny with 150k miles behind a 300+ HP engine - regardless of how many cylinders it has - and you're asking for trouble.

Thankfully the new 6-speed is available. While the gear ratios are less than perfect, it is stronger than the Fiero Getrag and available brand new. I'm sure someone will break one eventually. I hope when it happens they post lots of pics on here so we can see the failure mode. It's all about learning from the previous failures to try and improve the drivetrain where possible.

I'll take that as a no, lol. How can you criticize Archie for doing the "same old mods" when you dont even have the first clue on how its done? So you must be saying that buliding such cars as the GT40, Troys IMSA or Curlys Arch-Rival doesnt require any skill because people have been doing it for the past 30 yrs? Give me a break kid, go home.

I think the point of the pictures was to show the haters that he knows what he's doing, more so than others. If he wanted a 600hp fire breathing, nitrous sucking SBC, he would have one.
