I've proved plenty. One of those things you illustrate right here. And that would be your programming is so deeply ingrained you will ignore fact and logic and reason so you can cling onto fairytales of your imaginary friend. Believers in gods are nothing more then weak minded people who can't get over their brainwashing.

Just remember the only reason you believe in a god is because you have been told to by your parents and your community.

Not as much as you would think. Confront a priest with facts, logic, reason and common sense and they like all the other brainwashed cristians get frustrated when you show how ridiculous their dogma is. Then they fall back on how you need faith. Yes you do need faith. With out blind faith no one would believe a word of that crap.

Regarding use of the word brethren, it is used in a literal PHYSICAL blood relative sense, and also in a spiritual sense. That is why I CAPITALIZED physical in my answer--to emphasize that it is physical.

So to tell whether the word brethren is used in the PHYSICAL or SPIRITUAL (as in, being believers, we are in God's family so spiritually we are brothers sense), it would be determined by the CONTEXT.

So I gave you the verse that CLEARLY and OBVIOUSLY from the context was talking about a PHYSICAL FAMILY, and SPECIFICALLY mentions brethren and NAMES them.

Regarding Joseph, there is nothing in the Bible about him being old. There is nothing in the Bible about him having children from a different wife. And there is nothing about being old and married that makes it, then, that they don't have sexual roles and obligations in marriage.
It would be fun to talk to a priest about it. And I wouldn't go to try to "win any debate". As I said, the CRITICAL thing is whether Mary was a virgin BEFORE Jesus was born.
One thing I would be curious to know from a priest, and also from you, is WHY is it important to you if Mary was a virgin for her entire life. As I previously mentioned about that, there is nothing unique, special, nor scripturally required about that.

Phranc, I guess you had some rotten priests teaching you then. All the ones I have had discussions with were able to get the answers, if they weren't sure, and not give cop out answers. A Bible is always handy to them for finding the right passages.
No wonder you are an unbeliever. The answers aren't hard to find today with the help of the internet. The only problem is that you can find answers for both sides of the question. You need to decide which side answer you want, the ones that are church approved, depending on which church you belong to, or the ones from those who don't approve of the church's teachings.
Don't mock people's faith just because you lack it or do not understand it. People are as free to believe in what they want to as you are to not believe. Stop being sacrilegious and a blasphemer.

quote
Galatians 6:7-8: "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting."

quote

"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap." Galatians 6:7

"And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber." 2 Peter 2:2-3

"Fools mock at sin, but among the upright there is favor." Proverbs 14:9

"And he [the antichrist or lawless one] was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies.... Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world." Revelation 13:5-8

"For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man." Mark 7:21-23

"...put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering...." Colossians 3:8-12

"I am in derision daily; everyone mocks me.
For when I spoke, I cried out; I shouted, 'Violence and plunder!'
Because the word of the Lord was made to me a reproach and a derision daily.
Then I said, 'I will not make mention of Him, nor speak anymore in His name.'
But His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones;
I was weary of holding it back, and I could not." Jeremiah 20:7-9

"Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and beat Him. And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, 'Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?' And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him." Luke 22:63-65

"And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, 'Hail, King of the Jews!' Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head. And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified." Matthew 27:29-31

"Blessed is the man who

- Walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,

- Nor stands in the path of sinners,

- Nor sits in the seat of the scornful [mockers];

But his delight is in the law of the Lord,

And in His law he meditates day and night." Psalm 1:1-2

Do a search for the Protoevangelium of James or the Gospel of James. The Gospel of James may be the earliest surviving document attesting the veneration of Mary by stating her perpetual virginity and presenting her as the new Eve. This is why her virginity is so important. She basically was a nun and all that it means being one. Read the articles in the links I posted previously.
Here is a link to a Wiki article on Gospel of James, it's a readers digest of what is contained in this Gospel. If that isn't good enough for you do more research into his Gospel. I know you want answers, but you also have to be willing to find some on your own, not just make a statement, like the one I quoted from you above, without looking for an answer first.
The internet is a wonderful tool for finding answers if you are willing to invest a little time and effort. You still should speak to your priest if you are confused or need answers. They can point you in the right direction and are more qualified than I am.

The bible is always handy but it fails when confronted with logic, reason, common sense and facts. I'm an nonbeliever because its crap not because a few priests couldn't defend their crap. "Church approved" you mean the brainwashing. I don't want that answer I want the honest answer. I understand faith just fine. Faith is what weak minded people use to shield them selves from reality so they can feel special. Faith is what they use so they can ignore reality and insert dogma. Like Mary being a virgin and Jesus being more then just a man. I'll stop being "sacrilegious and a blasphemer" when your god shows itself. But since there is no god and that wont happen I will not stop exposing religion for the crap it is. Its ok for you to quote the bible and make claims that hold water of examination but I can't point out how full of crap the bible is.

The internet is great. You can find sites that point out all the inconsistencies in the gospels. Like how they can't even agree on the names of the apostles. You can also find all the gospels and books left out of the bible. You know all the ones that were discarded so christianity could be refined to say exactly what some priests want it to say. That way they could leave the bad parts like how Jesus was a murdering little brat. And things like gospels written by women. Can't have women writing things.

I found the correct definiton of what you are Phranc. You are a Heretic, although blasphemer and sacrilegious also suit you fine. Since you are all of these, your religious views are not to be believed, as they contradict that which us "true" Christians believe in.
You can call it brainwashing, fairy tales or whatever you want. Those of us who truly believe will get our just rewards, when the rhapsody arrives. That is our belief and faith.
The Bible is the recorded accounts and words of the saints as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. It isn't the word of God.

quote
The Holy Spirit will teach you all things. John 14:26. He desires to teach you individual, personal things about yourself, and how he wants you to live, how he wants you to improve, what he wants you to deny - as well as encourage you, tell you of his love for you, and open up the scriptures to you, including the mysteries. If you limit yourself to reading the Bible, you will only get crumbs beneath the table.

quote
Christ is the Word of God, not the Bible. The Bible has His recorded words in them, but they are words without spirit. There are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, [this is Jesus, not the Bible] and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one, 1 John 5:7.

quote

There is no conflict with what the Spirit of God has written and what the Spirit of God will speak to you; but recorded words are the letter that kills; not the spirit, which gives life. When Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter and Paul spoke of the scriptures, they used the word 'scriptures,' not the Word of God. The Bible refers to the Word of God as spoken or spirit, which is living and active, Heb 4:12.

Those of us that are real "believers" only use the Bible as a learning guide or stepstone to our beliefs, but you have to have faith and do not be misguided. If you want to read more about the sections I quoted, the full article is here.

quote
Many from "good Bible-believing, Bible-loving churches," today say you can't hear God's voice any more. They say that is why we have the Bible, because God's voice cannot be heard any more. I say they can't hear God's voice because, like the Pharisees before them, they are so busy talking and reading scriptures they think guarantee them eternal life, that they are not listening. The Bible seekers say that since you can't hear his voice anymore, then the Bible is his sole record left for us. They say since it is impossible to hear his voice any more, you must study the Bible; don't waste you time trying to hear the Lord. They say studying the Bible, (their Word of God), is how to grow as a Christian. They say you must meditate on their "Word" to be taught by the Spirit; but that is like walking into a classroom and demanding the teacher answer all your questions, which rather limits the teacher's ability to teach you what he knows you need to know. So, rather than arrogantly demanding that the teacher follow your lead, just humbly listen for his teaching, allowing God to lead you and set the agenda.

Be careful who you are listening to though, it could be the Devil. Just ask yourself, what would Jesus do?

I think you just got your second - from this thread, Phranc. Can't you debate without getting this insulting. It's bad enough you constantly bash on Christians because you have no faith, but to insult and degrade someone at this level is going too far.

I hope that some day you can shake that hate you have for everyone that isn't like you. Go ahead and start attacking me now........

I don't bash on christian because I don't have faith I bash on christianity for being based on lies and call christians what they are, brainwashed. Insult and degrade some one at what level? He chose the level he wanted to seen at when asked me if I was raped and made lie after lie. He willing acts like a niger so I will call him one. And since you have failed to honestly quote me I'll do it for you.

"Again with the reading the bible twice. It's bad enough but then you go and repeat a lie again even after you've been called out on that lie. But you are just a niger so you can't help it. To quote Dre quoting some one else. "I'll stop calling you nigers when you start acting like black man." A niger like you lies when confronted with his lack of education. But you don't really care that you are dishonest niger. If you did you would have stopped intentionally lying a few pages ago. But you keep reinforcing those stereotypes and make sure after you do it you ***** and moan about them and how unfair they are.

Just to recap it's not your colour that makes you a niger it is the actions you willing take."

I don't hate everyone not like me. But if that is what you need to believe to make your self better then by all means don't let the truth get in the way.
