Can't we all just get along.... (Page 2/5)
Xanth MAR 16, 10:34 AM
I am seriously tired of the threads keep coming up, with the same arguments, from the same people, over and over, and I haven't even been here that long.

Seems like a monthly thing now.

If you built what you want, just enjoy it. When two sides with no real info start bickering back and forth no one is going to win the argument, its just arguing for the sake of arguing.

Does seam like the same old fights each time. I was thinking about it and for me I feel that there are us who like out cars rather of what motor with what ever HP they have and are very happy with what we have. Then there are a few people that feel that the Fieros are Drag and race cars and they can build themselfs one as well. Well either way is fine by me and I like either way. I love the sound of a v8 and and if it states 250 HP and gives me what I want then I will be happy with that. Now I have a nice 2.8 Fiero and an good old Iron Duke in my Indy. If I could afford it would I get an upgrade. Sure I would but I must say that I would get the one that suits me as should be for me and only me as I will drive it and enjoy it.

My 2 cents

I don't get the joke. The little light bulb over my head will probably click on next week sometime. But I did notice your post count:

Where you saving that for me? j/k

As for the topic, I'm one of those who likes ALL Fieros. For now, I'm still driving that 84 4-cylinder, and it's probably all I will be able to afford for a very long time. But I have had a good running GT, and I have driven 3800sc's and V8's. And to use a worn-out phrase: It's ALL good.

As Bill & Ted said, ...

"Be excellent to each other."

Just glancing down on the "General Fiero Chat" section, I see three threads that are headed for the trash can...all just like this one. Basically, everyone here is getting sick and tired of the BS. I've been around here for two years and owning Fieros for 15 years. I've had four cylinders, automatics (well only one), four speeds, five speeds, six cylinders, eight cylinders (more than one), and one powered with a Volkswagen engine (soon to hit the road). Honestly, I really don't give a crap if you like me or not. I loved Fieros before I met all of you and I'll own Fieros long after I leave or you leave. I get along with just about everyone I meet...I'm an easy going guy...even when one of my customer's asks me why I would own a crappy Fiero. I just smile and add $100 to his bill.
I've met a lot of nice people here, but to be honest and I'm sure that Archie feels this 1000 times more, when I go to meets or Carlisle per se, I'm wondering if the guy who comes up to me to talk about my V8 Fiero is going to be nice or verbally trash my car.
It kind of funny, Joey and I go to just as many MINI Cooper events as Fiero events and the people there are more accepting and less insulting to each other. I'd say they mod their cars more than us Fiero guys. The mods they do are borderline insane, but I respect the hundreds of hours invested to customize their cars. Of all the MINI's I work on, no two are the same.
Anyway, I'm getting off topic. The local Fiero group I hang with is very nice. There are a few V8's, turboed cars, 3800 swaps, some needing paint (including two of mine), stock ones, and we get along just fine.
Maybe all you people should do what I do.......

If you can't say it to the person's face, don't write it in a post.

I've said a few things in the past that have been taken the wrong way, but sometimes when you write it down, advice can be unintentionally insulting. I stay out of the V8 vs 3800 swaps. I'm old school as well as new school. I like the rumble of a V8 and I like the whistle of a turbo. I like torque and I like horsepower. I also like reliability.

Just my opinion.....which may change in ten minutes anyway.
Dave

Well said, Dave....and my viewpoint, as well. Being a 2.8 owner, I can't say that I'm really qualified to get into a discussion on which swap is better. I like them all. Someday (when I win the Powerball jackpot!) I'll do a swap....and it will probably be a 3800SC. But, I love the sound of a V8...I have a Mustang GT as a daily driver....and I can appreciate the time, money, and sweat spent in ANY conversion. I've never understood why people feel that one swap is better than another, and think they need to convince the other guy that they're right in their opinion. I guess it has a lot to do with loyalties....think about all of the Ford (and other makes) haters here. Yep, I like Fords....always have. But I like GM products too, as evidenced by the Grand Prix and Fiero that I own, and other GM products I've owned over the years. And although I'm not a Mopar fan, I admire and respect some of the products they've built over the years, and feel no need to bash someone just because they happen to like a Mopar, and not a Ford or GM, or any combination of the three. It all comes down to personal preference. It's okay to like what you own...we all just need to learn not to bash the other guy because his preference isn't the same as ours. It's all about respect, and the ability to appreciate what someone else has done with their time, money, talents, and preferences. I think, as others have said, that most people here are pretty good about doing that...the ones that need to bash and argue are the minority. Of course, they're the ones that you hear...because the people that respect another's choices usually do not say much about it.

Of course, I have to throw this all out the window when talking about Stricker and his "Buick" (old folks car)....

I'll throw in my $.02,
I've been in the "car" hobbie for about 30 years (I'm 46, and bought my first project when I was 14). I've been into Street Machines, moved to Customs and Lowriders, then to Street Rods and about 6 years ago finally bought my first Fiero. I've had the good fortune to meet many differnt "car people". In every aspect of this hobby there are folks who can't seem to keep negative comments to themselves. I've been to shows where I'l walk around a guys car admiring his work and talent (or checkbook), and make the comment "beautifull car", if his response is ...."yes it is", I smile and walk away. On the other hand, I meet a young guy last September at FIERORAMA who owns a killer Fiero w/ a SBC, and who was one of the most friendly and well educated enthusiasts I have meet. He even took me for a ride in his car to demonstrate it's performance.
My point is this..........
I like anyone who enjoys their car and is willing to have a frindly converstion about it. Stock, modified, or something in between, who cares!! ? I think it's the people (or the "family") that makes the difference.
My cars are stock, I like them that way. I've had some very fast cars in the past, I enjoy seeing and looking at them as well. But we struggle enough when it comes to respect from other auto enthusiasts, why not at least show each other some. You'll always get a smile and wave from me!

I'd have to say, and this is just an opinion, that part of the reason things like that happen is that somewhere, somehow, someone convinced enough people that the only way to feel good about yourself is to ridicule and beliitle all of those around you. To me, that is but an example of a very fraile ego and weak self esteem. It also seems to be this quest for artificial drama that people have. If you don't have enough excitement in your life, create it by stirring things up no matter what the ultimate cost. To support this, you need only to turn your tv on and see how many "reality" shows the networks have created. They wouldn't keep making them if there wasn't a "need" for them. Before we cast so many stones upon other's work, creations, hopes, and goals, maybe we should step back and just think about how it would be if someone completely decimated the ideas and creations we have. "Treat people as you wish to be treated" is an old saying I remember. Some say it, some believe it, but only a few seem to practice it. Ok, I'm scared of heights, so I'm getting off of this soap box now.
