This strikes me as something a Mafia member would say.

The world doesn't owe you (nor me, nor anybody) a favor. People don't have an obligation to be charitable. Charity is voluntary; an act of kindness. When the "charity" is coerced, it's called "extortion". When it's taken by force, it's called "robbery".

I make it a point to not give to the little brats standing outside the food store BEGGING for money to support the pop warner football team or high school sports. I'll say to my kids loud enough so the little begars can hear...."Maybe if they would bag my groceries or wash my car, I'd give them money. Don't ever grow up to be a beggar."
One time, one of the parents and I almost got into it because I wouldn't give money to his little kid. I told him to have his kid bag some groceries and he actually said "My kid shouldn't have to work for a donation."
Just my opinion....and TEACH YOUR KIDS TO EARN THEIR MONEY like I did and maybe they will learn to support themselves and not live with you when they are 30.
Hell, I started my own business when I was 25.

I think Bill is like in his late 30s. You might want to edit your post accordingly.

No... In my opinion, your attitude sucked royal ass. Saying "no" with your back turned to the individual is VERY arrogant and disrespectful. You "shouldn't" treat people like that and when you do, this it what happens.

If you simply looked them in the face and said "I'd love to help you but I just don't have it right now." That would have said a hell of a lot more about you than what you portrayed.

Or as I stated a simple buck and a smile would have done much more.

buddy, go back to the store, find out what organization it is, and Bill will mail them a buck!

i work for my money, why should i give it away? why should a person feel bad or intimidated for not giving handouts?

also i can tell you something about human nature, once you engage in a converstation like that they other party will try to drag it out. its not about being rude to someone but they will keep keep trying to talk you into getting something. maybe these folks should have gone down to labor ready and worked all day and given their wages to this oganization or charity?

i was facing them the first time i said NO.
and saying it once should have been good enough.
having to say it twice was an annoyance.

i never carry cash.
i live my life by my debit card.
but i shouldn't have to explain that to anyone asking for my money when they've done nothing for me.

so you think it's ok for them to insinuate justifiably robbing me because i didn't reach in my pocket when they asked for it?
