My brain tells me if it wasn't for the fact that you're sponging off your girlfriend, you'd be living in a cardboard box somewhere. You've been brainwashed like so many people in the western world. Spend, spend, spend... buy all that crap you don't really need. One day when you really need that money, it won't be there.

Um, I work full time... if I didn’t live with her I'd be living in an apartment (or back with my parents in West Bloomfield…where it was easy for me to find a job)... not a box. And if every one in the world just saved saved saved, there’d be no one buying things... which as much as I hate it, is how this society is set up... so Patrick you can either accept that and deal with it... or you can stay angry and try to insult those who have come to grips with the reality of the situation... because you cant change it. And to think otherwise is asinine and juvenile. [This message has been edited by dezie36 (edited 10-23-2005).]

Just curious--how old are you?

Thank you so much Oh Benevolent Provider!! Now I know who to credit my meager success to.
| quote | we both have jobs that aren’t going anywhere, so we save about 10% of our incomes… and pay the bills… but we spend the rest… we eat out, go to movies. If every one thought the way we did, the economy wouldn’t be in the slump its in… We’re doing our part…are you? |
|
they sure are!! They're doing just like you. Buying what they want and spending like they want--On things like---say?- SUVs!? This is just too much. You're pulling our leg--aren't ya? Gotta be.

Dezie, I am not trying to insult your intelligence. But you do realise that one day, you might get married to your partner, and then she will want to start a family, as I imagine you will, too. So, she loses her figure, has to have time off to have the child(ren), they will get sick, have accidents, go to school, you might have an accident preventing you from working for a long period of time (I sincerely hope not). There can, and WILL, be long periods of time when either, or both of you, will not be able to work, and the income will wither. You won't be able to keep up the payments on anything, and all that you HAVE invested in, will be gone.It is as cold, harsh and unbending as that, Reality. These are just words of advice, not condemnation. Yours to take, read, accept or reject. And just some advice given freely from one of those old Snowbirds that most young people choose to ignore, and ridicule (as I did too.) Good luck...I think you may need it. Dude I’m 21 years old... I have 50 years of working a head of me... I never said I wanted a family... and if I choose too, by that point ill have a career and will have saved money... as I said we save 10% of our yearly income... right now there’s 12k in the bank... I sure hope that’s enough incase I brake my leg or get run over in my Fiero by an SUV (see I can bring in other threads for humor). The point is you are all thinking of my life through your eyes... one day I’ll be married (maybe), one day ill want a family (maybe), one day I’ll get hurt and wont be able to work (maybe), these are all maybes... living my life by what might happen is one of those things I refuse to do. My parents spent over 20k on physiologist appointments to get me to stop thinking that way... I was 9 years old with anxiety issues... because I was worried about my parents being able to pay the bills, I was worried about getting good grades... about being able to make something of my self... it took me 9 years to grow up and realize that things will happen that I cant control and that I can either worry about it and have a brake down again, or I can live my life one day at a time and enjoy my time here on earth, as we aren’t here for long and living your life worrying will just ruin your time here. This is another joke, right? There are always necessary things to spend money on - food, clothing, mortgage/rent, power for light and heat, gasoline/car maintainence, etc. Even the most frugal among us spends money on unnecessary items occasionally. And then there's the "big-spenders" (like you maybe?) who have a chronic need to try and impress others with their bling and who will always spend more than they should.

Angry? Me? You've got me confused with the guy who started This thread, and of course, This thread.

You obviously don’t see it... but that’s fine... but the economy is in the shitter because people aren’t spending... that’s the definition of recession re·ces·sion1 P Pronunciation Key (r-sshn) n. 1.The act of withdrawing or going back. 2.An extended decline in general business activity, typically three consecutive quarters of falling real gross national product. 3.The withdrawal in a line or file of participants in a ceremony, especially clerics and choir members after a church service. so if every one only spends money on the essentials... you know what I’m just going to be repeating my self here and your still not going to get it.

Yep, I guess because you have world economics all figured out (amazingly, by the age of 21 years!), you'll be needing to work until you're 71 years of age. Meanwhile, the rest of us backward bumpkins who foolishly were not spending, spending, spending, will have retired years earlier than that. Dezie, thanks for making it all possible for us by your generous contributions to the economy!

My point was that even with just my HS Econ classes under my belt... I obviously understand it better then some. And by the time I’m ready to retire the age will be 70... its gone up from 55, to 60 to 65 in the last few decades. Oh and if I’m wrong please explain it to me… I’m obviously so wrong!
