How Saws Work Shown with High Speed Video (Page 1/1)

This is a must see for wood workers out there. The guy that makes this video uses a high speed camera close up on different saws and shows how they cut. It shows why cross cut saws suck at ripping and rip saws are not so good at cross cutting.

Interesting video. Already knew most of that but was interesting seeing it on the High Speed video. Thanks for posting it. My days of chain sawing and woodworking are pretty much over. Don't mind the work but don't like the body aches that follow the effort. Yeah, getting old sucks.

An interesting video and good explanation but he did leave out that good chain saw chains come in any variety of rakes, teeth sets, angles, chisel types and most importantly to most home users, an extra 'tooth' ahead of each cutter tooth. I usually use a pretty aggressive cut chain without the reduced kickback chain, but i been using one along time now and so far, haven't done anymore than cut thru a Wrangler jean leg and not the flesh underneath.

(There also some little 'guards' you can install on the nose of the bar that prevents anything except cutting with the flat part of the bar and chain. )
