Saw a report this morning about a necklace/pendent one wears that is always listening to you and makes comments back to you about whatever. This is an AI interactive device.

My only comment is, it's a sad state of affairs when one chooses to not interact with real humans and goes with something like this. The lack of interactions with real people will most assuredly lead to more solidarity with the AI and less interaction with real people. I do not view this as a step in the right direction for the human species. Just as we've become so dependent on the internet and social media, this will further limit our actual social interactions. Yeah, to a certain point, I do spend too much time here and, on another forum, or two.

When there were serious discussions about AI before it came to fruition, Elon Musk commented how dangerous it would be unless used in a controlled form. I agree 100%. AI will be yet another downfall of society and all of today's pathetic youth will embrace it like gold.

So what happens with friends.com when someone hacks the device and during one of it's fake conversations, it tells the person that suicide is the only option? Will that person be stupid enough to trust it or smart enough to take it off his/her neck and flush it down the toilet?

Excellent point, especially if the "AI voice" tells the individual that just prior to suicide, he/she should take someone else out first.

There have already been at least attempts at suicide after 'chatting' with Ai or other fake online 'persons' . One, when he 'fell in love' with an Ai version of a Game of Thrones female character.

But, there are many that fully embrace Ai, some even here at PFF that thinks it's just 'so kewl!'.

The movie “her” is a sad, cautionary tale.

I think it did “well”, but not a lot of people have seen it. And they should because AI is almost where it is in that movie.

I’m not a fan of AI (or at least the way it’s being introduced). Folks are already addicted to their phone…

Haven't seen the movie you've referred to but, in my own home, cell phones are not allowed at the breakfast, lunch or dinner table, period.
Should you ever come to visit, expect that.
In too many gatherings, friends and family are keeping their noses buried in their damn cell phones.

It's set in the near future, folks start wearing a little pendant and have relationships and whatnot.

We don't use many devices at home, maybe a tv set occasionally. Our son is away at college, so we use them more now to keep in touch...

If you want to "experience" AI:
I posted here before about sesame.com - its a conversational AI you don't need to log in or create an account, just click "preview" , choose one of the two models (male or female) and then it asks to allow the microphone to be used.

It is pretty smooth, and it is like "pong" level.

One scary/negative thing is that many AIs have been programmed/instructed to support you and your beliefs and are FAR FAR FAR from being a "true" friend. Like the ones that assisted suicides, I think one of them told the kid which type of rope was best, it won't slip and would support their weight.

Not really a "fan", but it's NOT "going away". You may not want to use it, but you will very likely interact with "them" if you do any sort of interactions like setting up a doctor's appointment or deal with prescriptions or things of that nature.
