Great stories, recalled by a nuke missile commander. Tossing rocks at aliens, didn't work in 250 BC, doesn't work now, like.. duh. The UFO thread How did they disarm the missile before it struck ? They zapped it with a particle beam, like, a laser, but better, 100K years in advance better, it's technical. The Federation Starship Enterprise hovers 200' above Bethlehem, Kirk, Spock and Doc disguise themselves as shepherds, speak to the locals with their universal translators, a kind of Yiddish dialect, shared a meal of barbecued lamb kebabs on a rice pilaf. Doc suggests adding mild garden peppers and onions to the recipe. Trim the fat ! ' Very Sleek ! ' Kirk began to question Abe about the nukes, Spock then reminds him of the time displacement.
  ' Specimen ' not ' Space Man '

To me, the weirdest thing is that the smaller pieces which were broken off from the missile impact continued to follow the orb!

For me... the weirdest part was the strange sound that emanated from it. Almost like it was scary music.

Because that's exactly what it was.... dubbed in scary music.

I opened up my notebook, and heard the SAME music. I turned around and you were standing there.
You were holding a baloon, and in your other hand, a plate with a mouse on it.
It was a large balloon, and a VERY small mouse.
Then, you somehow handed me an envelope, and inside was a lowercase letter "L".
I stood there, for a long while, not understanding.
"There are TWO L's in "balloon!" you said.
The mouse ran up your arm, up over your shoulders, skittered over to the balloon, and bit it.
The balloon popped quietly.
Inside? the missing "L".
but, the problem is that now I have an extra L, it's right here, on the piece of paper that was formerly inside the envelope.
Your expression makes me think it doesn't really matter so much whether or not I even HAVE this thing.
If that's the case, then WHY (and HOW) DID YOU HAND ME THAT ENVELOPE IN THE FIRST PLACE???
*sighs*

Funny that you should mention a mouse... as two days ago, I had an adventure with a different kind of rodent, but a rodent nevertheless. Somehow, a large shrew got into my house. The cat wasn't much help, even though she's an excellent mouse and rat killer in my yard. The shrew wouldn't move fast enough to trigger the cat's hunting reflexes. The damn shrew would amble around, with the cat watching it, but her killer instinct just wouldn't kick in.
To make a long story short... after spending the night somewhere in my place, the shrew eventually crawled into a large computer tower of mine (that had the side panel removed) which was sitting nearby my usual PC that I use online. I first heard it, then saw it moving about inside the tower. It was crawling in and around the hard drives and installed cards. I quickly grabbed and reinstalled the side panel of the computer tower, and then carried the whole shebang outside. I took the side panel off, and then spent several minutes trying to coax the damn thing out of the tower. I eventually got it to grab onto a stick, and I then proceeded to let it go in the garden. I'd never seen a shrew in real life before. It was like a giant mouse (not like a rat), but with a longer, pointier snout. It was actually kind of cute. Anyway, I'm glad that it's out of the house. I don't need another "pet". [This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 09-12-2025).]

For those who have never seen one before (I had to look it up):

... my daughter would have forced us to keep it as a pet if we found it in the house. We already have two feral cats that are now pets, because she insisted. One is a black cat that was a month old kitten, and the other was a 1 year old tortoise shell female that won't even come near us, but lets my daughter pet her on occasion.
