On September 30, 2021, AP reported the collapse of one of the wind energy industry's largest turbines in Germany. The turbine, described as "784 feet", had already been connected to the power grid for six previous months, but it collapsed the day before it was going to have an official "launch" or "Inauguration".

I think that figure of "784 feet" above ground refers to the height of the rotor hub, plus the length of the blades. So the rotor hub would not be that high above the ground, but still a very large wind turbine.

Freelance journo Tim Newcomb reports that wind turbine failures are "on the uptick across the world." He references another recent report from Bloomberg that eyes manufacturing and quality control issues as the culprit in this whodunnit-like circumstance. Siemens, Vestas and GE are the "big three" of the wind turbine manufacturing industry, and they are all reportedly having "issues".

"Rapid innovation strains manufacturing and the broader supply chain."

"We’re seeing these failures happening in a shorter time frame on the new turbines."

Welcome to Pier Wind, the Port of Long Beach's proposal to develop the largest facility specifically designed to accommodate the assembly of [floating] offshore wind turbines in the United States.

The proposed facility would span up to 400 acres of newly built land, located southwest of the Long Beach International Gateway Bridge within the Harbor District.

Rinse, has it clicked in to you exactly WHY rural people dont use wind-powered pumps on their wells anymore ?

Offshore winds are more reliable. In the areas they're looking at, as much as 20 or more miles from shore, the winds are steady and strong from early morning until late evening. The wind drops off for a period around midday, but that's the best part of the day for solar energy to fill the gap.

It's like this day after day, year-round, with very few exceptions, in the areas that they're "eyeing" for floating offshore wind farms.

"They'd be crazy not to."
