I imagine that route is a bit more white at this time of year! 
It must cost a freakin' fortune to build and maintain roads through the Rockies. I've never driven that far east from the coast. Perhaps it should be on my bucket list.

Found a nice aerial, drone cam, of the pre-blasting two lane, an exhilarating drive in '97, more so in the '70s, yeek !

Rocks Fall
Frontier to Freeway, interesting read.
A Red Ford Mustang convertible registered in 1966 to a London, Ontario resident, was discovered wedged between a standing rock formation and the canyon wall, hidden from view, 25m above the Kicking Horse River. The car had been in it's precarious location since, less than 3000 miles on the odometer, the keys still in the ignition, in the on position, the automatic in drive, no trace of the driver could be found, a mystery. Apparently had run out of gas after falling 600' from the road above, landing, or floating like a feather, to it's miraculous destination.

Picture this grade in 6' of powder, at night, yep ! Strange lights in the sky, strange, in a science fiction way, Outer Limits sound track, yep !
' Space navigation indicator lights. '
Helpful in winter blizzard conditions.
Eastbound on the Kootenay Pass, a seeming loss of power, visibility reduced, it all seemed so very strange at night.
Such a well lit trucker climbing the hill made everything clear, I was driving through powder snow 3' deep, so light it was near invisible.
He went by, plowing a massive wave of fuzzy light molecules 10' high, the effect a weird blanket of transparent ice crystals, glowing yellow, orange and red.
Spaced out, later stopped for a sleepover in Cranbrook.
Just a few km east of Bridal Lake on the Crow's Nest Highway, down the grade along the side of the mountain, into the canyon, in winter, powder snow, like, six feet deep.
