If you are mowing bahia or fescue, keep the mower blades SHARP!
Bahia is notoriously hard on a bush hog type mower as it uses torque vs rpm to mow and that works great on brush but thick tall grass can load 32 gross hp (26 pto hp) down pretty easily.
I've mowed lots of it with a Ford 3600 (pto rated 40hp) and Layland pto rated @ 42hp and it can be a chore with either if the blades are dull.
Get a slip clutch for the mower gearbox input shaft if there isn't one already on the mower.

Don,
Appreciate the advice. I'm sure I'll have many adventures to report on in the future. Right now, I'm traveling and in SC. The day I arranged to buy the tractor and to pick up the following day, a mutual friend of ours called and asked me to come help him. So, after I brought the tractor and mower home, I packed my bags and came to SC but had to do it via a trip to KY due to a previously arranged agreement with another party. A lot of miles in two days but, so far things are working out. But, the truth is, I only got to unload the tractor (move the previously mentioned bike trailer) and put the tractor in storage. I'm sure by the time I get back home (in a week to ten days) that grass will be ready to mow. Not sure if I mentioned it or not but, this is a finish mower, not the two bladed bush hog. Definitions or terms/names may vary with different regions.
