Do you have a problem with this proposed legislation?

I do. The wording is way too vague and leaves too much open to interpretation in local jurisdiction.
The part that criminalizes the sale of virtually anything a jurisdiction may deem 'supplies' is rather ridiculous as well.
quote | a provision in SB 211 making a person who "knowingly provides supplies to a riot that can be used as weapons or dangerous instruments" subject to a riot-in-the-second-degree charge, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to 12 months in jail |
|
"can' be used....
There's no limit to all the things that this vague description may include, and the retailers, vendors etc have no way of knowing what the intended purpose each buyer has in mind when the sale takes place. They used water bottles as an example, but that is but one of thousands of everyday use items 'we the public' buy everyday. A can of Pepsi. Self defense pepper spray many women buy and keep in their purse, even a container of everyday red or black pepper from the spice aisle in Kroger.
I already can't buy a tube of Superglue, a can of spray paint, or airplane cement without proving my age and the stores I might purchase those items from are now legally required to ask for that age verification all because someone somewhere used them for harmful or illegal purposes. I can't buy a package of Sudafed without showing my driver's license either, because it evidently can be used to make an illegal drug, and, the pharmacists make a copy of my DL or at least enter my DL# into a data base at the point of sale, even tho it is not a prescription drug. (I personally don't use Sudafed but my wife sometimes does)
In other words, it's yet another case of extreme kneejerk govt over reach and more govt regulation on a long dangerous slippery slope of control..[This message has been edited by maryjane (edited 03-05-2021).]

OK, I'm calling BS. Nobody even asks me if I am old enough for the senior discount anymore.

Yup. I have a VERY serious problem with censorship and thought-control. Regardless of the excuse.

They may not mention it but it happens none-the-less. I bought a tube of superglue just this week and checked out at a self checkout. When I scanned the superglue, the scan display locked up until an employee came over and ran her card across the scanner. I asked why it happened and she said "age verification is required to purchase some items".

15 years ago City of London (ontario) passed a by-law requiring ID to buy spray paint....SUPPOSEDLY to keep it out of the hands of the taggers. Everybody just said screw you and went to outlying towns to buy the paint. THAT bylaw didnt last long. [This message has been edited by MidEngineManiac (edited 03-05-2021).]

So when the cashier gives me that "subtle glance", she is indeed checking me out, but not for the reason I thought.

The bill is bad... and it seems like it's taking away rights. Once you give an inch of your freedom, you will NEVER get it back.
There is plenty that the rioters are doing that is illegal, just ACTUALLY arrest them on the things they're doing wrong.
