Free classic game Powerslave (Page 1/1)

Just wanted to introduce you all to a really cool game you might want to try out. The game is called Powerslave. It's an old school first person shooter that was originally released around 1996 for the Playstation, and Sega Saturn. (it never came to PC)

Powerslave was developed by Lobotomy Software, whom were famous for porting PC games to the consoles of the time. Mostly games that no one thought would run on the consoles, like Quake, and Duke3D for the Sega Saturn. Eventually they got to make their own original game, and that game was Powerslave.

It's a real forgotten classic, that not a lot of people know about. Think of it as a cross between old school DOOM with a mix of Tomb Raider. The whole game takes place in Egypt, and your essentially raiding tombs looking for ancient artifacts that give you special powers to raid more tombs, and go back to previous tombs to access areas you couldn't without a certain artifact.

Anyway, Powerslave was kind over shadowed by other shooters back in the day so it didn't get the recognition it deserved. But! Someone ported the Playstation version to the PC. Plus its free to download and play!

You can download it here: *Edit* Looks like the author of the port had to take the download link down due to bandwith limits. But i found another download link. Its posted below.
https://powerslaveex.wordpress.com/downloads/ *currently not working*

New download: *working* (just choose a format under "download options" on the right. .zip works fine.)

Note:
There is a bug in Windows10 that causes your mouse not to work in the game.

There is a fix for that here:
https://github.com/frmr/Pow...owerslave_EX_fix.zip

To apply the mouse fix. Just unzip Powerslave to any place you want on your hard drive. Then go to the directory you unzipped Powerslave too, and find the file "anubis.exe" (its the file you click on to launch the game) and replace it with the new "fixed" version you downloaded, and your mouse will work just fine in game.

Here's some gameplay:

Ah no problem.. This was one of my favorites back in the day.. I still have the Sega Saturn version. This pc port is based on the PS1 version, which is basically the same as the Saturn, but with some small differences in some of the levels design.

But its great to be able to play it with a mouse and keyboard, at nicer resolutions.

I'll warn you though.. The game can be pretty unforgiving difficulty wise. This is a direct port of a console game, so no saving your game mid level. If you die during a level, you start the level again from scratch. And with some of the precise jumps you gotta make, it can get brutal, lol.. But there are not many instances of that, so don't let that stop you from diving into a really great game.

Plus once you find the Sandals and Helmet artifacts, it pretty much negates any difficult jumps. (sandals make you jump super high/far, and the helmet lets you control your fall by holding the jump button, you float down super slow)

It's a Beotch! lol.. I think I've died about 10 times now.. lol.

"Magma Fields". Your inside a volcano. Jumping/floating from rock to rock trying not to fall into the lava. Giant lava dragon monster things poppin out every 3 seconds to spam fireballs at you..

Good times! :P
