Computer/monitor issue? (Page 1/1) |

I'm having an unusual computer/monitor/dock issue. I have a (3) year old Lenovo Thinkpad T450s along with the docking station and (2) 32" HP Pavilion monitors. I bought the laptop used about a year ago and so far, it's been flawless. Recently, I've tried to play Netflix and Amazon Prime videos on 1 monitor whilst surfing on the other. Unfortunately, once the video starts to play, the screen on the 2nd monitor dies. Blank screen, just as if I shut the monitor off. If I play a video off of an SSD/HDD, everything is fine. I don't recall this happening before but generally I watch Netflix/Amazon Prime content on my TV.
Not sure if this is a laptop, docking station or monitor issue. When I swap windows between the monitors, the issue continues but on the opposite monitor. This makes me think this is NOT a monitor issue. I'd rather not buy another laptop or docking station as both are fairly expensive and I'd feel the need to upgrade the laptop if I'm going to drop a grand on a replacement.
Any suggestions, please?

sounds like it could possibly be a hdcp issue. what is the model number of the monitor that is blanking out?

He stated that the opposite one would black out if he swapped windows between the monitors so evidently, each (either monitor) will black out depending which one he's playing the video on.[This message has been edited by maryjane (edited 01-03-2021).]

yeah I assumed that, I also assumed both monitors being the same brand and size were probably the same model. and was curious if it is HDCP compliant and if so to which specification. Their are other questions like the resolution and screen refresh rate being used depending on the answer to the first question.

1GZ08AA#ABA They're identical models. 2560x1440 @ 60ghz. I haven't changed the settings since I 1st set them up a few months ago.

A few things I would look at
1 check to see if you have a graphics adapter control panel and if you do look at the hdcp settings. 2 check to see if you have any recent graphics adapter driver updates. If you do and this was working before you may try rolling back the driver. 3 possibly try using a different browser to eliminate a issue involving the browser.

Can try but likely Not a HDCP problem.
Easily Can be Display "card" drivers or software. Video uses a different "layer" of screen and isn't same thing as desktop or a program windows to the "video card." Also, Even if V-drivers didn't update, Win10 likely did and "broke" the V-drivers.
Are you running in a window or full screen? Full Screen for different services and/or browsers can do different things. Sim to Many full screens shrink to window trying to work in another screen. Does it happen to 1 streaming service or more? On same browser or others? Note that New Edge, Brave and others are just Skins for Chrome. Old Edge and FF uses own software base to work. Do you have plugins on the browser? Plugins causes many browser problems. Create new profile w/o plugins to stream. Most to All current browsers can use many profiles but default running 1 and auto to start. Example: In FF "go to" about:profiles See https://support.mozilla.org...tch-firefox-profiles
Many Browsers auto update and often w/o notice. This can cause problems too and hard or impossible to roll back and save your profile.
Many programs do still have problems w/ multiple screens. Even MPC and others have weird problems like open on one screen, drag window to other and have problems resizing etc until you close and rerun on that screen.
W/ a laptop and related... try using builtin and 1 external and see has same problem. Many laptops may claim support many screens but don't really. Mobil Video has many issues and worse when dealing w/ video or "gaming" type output. Might even be throttling because is getting too hot trying to have video and 2 large screens. When was last time anyone clean the heatsink and fan(s)? Doesn't take much crap to make a laptop to have heat problems. Also CPU and GPU is often Heatsinked but not V-ram etc. Two big screens plus Video, worse HD Video, may run out of V-ram. HWMonitor may help if machine is getting hot etc.
