I think what happened here is that General Perna, who heads up the U.S. vaccine delivery project, reached a decision to stand down on some of the shipments of vaccine from the major Pfizer storage depots or warehouses because of concerns about the winter storm that (among other effects) has blanketed large swathes of the U.S. northeast with snow. But General Perna's office did not go public to explain that.

On a more disquieting note, I just saw where they are saying (on MSNBC) that Pfizer and Moderna are forecasting that their vaccine manufacturing processes are going to be hampered by shortages of certain materials and reagents or vaccine ingredients. It was just reported that Pfizer and Moderna are projecting that they will not be able to fully perform to the vaccine manufacturing timelines that they have previously promised.

And there's a certain concern--not panic, but concern--about a new strain or mutation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that has been identified as spreading within the United Kingdom:

You can scroll the article until you see the boldfaced section heading of "Will it [the new or mutated strain] be resistant to vaccines?"

Virus variances are not unusual.

So it has a whole bunch of mutations, not just one?

Yes. To put this in context, however, the coronavirus is constantly mutating and there are lots of variants with one or more mutations. In fact, by July, there were already at least 12,000 “mutants”. The number will be higher now, though many mutations are rare and the viruses carrying them often die out.
