New York Nurse First Person To Receive Covid Vaccine In US

New York:
A nurse in New York became the first person in the United States to receive the coronavirus vaccine Monday.

Sandra Lindsay, a critical care nurse at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center, received the Pfizer-BioNTech shot live on television shortly before 9:30 am (1430 GMT).

"First Vaccine Administered. Congratulations USA! Congratulations WORLD!" President Donald Trump tweeted.

Lindsay said the jab "didn't feel any different from taking any other vaccine."

"I feel great. I feel relieved," she said.

"I hope this marks the beginning of the end of the very painful time in our history. I want to instill public confidence that the vaccine is safe.

"We're in a pandemic so we all need to do our part," Lindsay added.

The local hospital is getting 4900 doses of the Pfizer vaccine late this week/early next week. I don't know if this allotment is intended to cover for both doses or if this only an intial shipment. Overall it would cover ~ 28% of staff for two courses or 56% of employees for one course. Hopefully if Moderna's vaccine get review later this week and possibly shipment early next week that would cover at least the majority of the staff, at best it may cover all staff of the hospital who elect to take it.

While no impact locally yet, it appears there should start to be positive impact for healthcare professionals in my area.

Yep. Lawyers always be looking for the angle/the racket/the gimmick, as well as tons of ordinary folks looking for a handout.

I've had lots of vaccinations over the last 60+ years. I have not had any chronic inflammation, tho I'm sure a conspiracy theorist will be along shortly to explain it all.

Hummm, "courage"? I thought this stuff is as safe as a flu shot? Little to no risk? 95% effective? She isn't a part of the test trial and she is getting the same stuff a thousands of others, its not a risky venture. Now she gets the fame and notoriety of being a "first".
That isn't my definition of courage, but ok.
