The Geminds meteor shower .

Minimum moon so it should be plenty dark.
From a rare ‘Christmas star’ on winter solstice to the Full Cold Moon just before new year, there are lots of stunning celestial events to look out for this December. One phenomenon that has astronomers extra excited?

Peaking on the nights of December 13 and 14—from Sunday night until sunrise this Monday—the most active meteor shower of 2020 will take place in the form of the Geminids.

Reminder. It's tonight and early tomorrow morning.

There is also a solar eclipse coming up this month, but is not visible in North America.

A poem regaling the 'true story' regarding an eclipse of days gone by in ancient China (year 2153bc ):
Here lies the bodies of Ho and Hi
Whose fate tho sad is risible.
Being hanged because they could not spy
The eclipse-- which was invisible.

Heigh ho! 'tis said that being drunk
thus brought them into trouble;
But surely this is incorrect,
as drunken folks see double.

Thank you for the reminder. But it's too cloudy here. Looking through the PVS-14 I can't see a single star.

We are (Finally) having some rain here in N. California...which, of course, means clouds and no visibility (Unless the meteors turn into meteorites!)

20 years ago or so, I told my buddy about the upcoming Perseids meteor shower- he talked to his brother who lived up in the Sierra foothills....we stayed at his place and the night of the shower went up to a ski resort parking lot (Up high- and no city lights) and watched the shower; Very impressive- wasn't quite up to the 1833 Leonids but quite a spectacle...I actually brought a lounge chair and laid there soaking it in.....
