'You just put your lips together and blow...' Worlds Inc (Dallas) Covid breathalyzer (Page 1/1)

These are my key takeaways from a slightly longer report:

quote
That simple exhaled breath is key to a new device that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect whether individuals should be tested for COVID-19. The sophisticated breathalyzer is being developed and tested through a collaboration among a Dallas-based company, Worlds Inc., the U.S. Air Force and The Texas A&M University System.

Called Worlds Protect, the device takes the form of a kiosk where a person uses a disposable straw to blow into a copper inlet. In less than a minute, test results can be sent to the person’s smartphone. . . .

The Texas A&M System has invested $1 million in the project’s development. It is assisting Worlds Inc. with engineering and design, prototype building and the mapping of a commercial manufacturing process. Five prototypes will be tried out this fall on the Texas A&M campus. . . .

More than 800 individuals have been tested with Worlds Protect already at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio and Brigham Young University (BYU). Results so far suggest that the accuracy of Worlds Protect is comparable to PCR tests, which are considered the best type of test available for diagnosing COVID-19. . . .

Inside the Worlds Protect kiosk, a person’s breath is examined for the specific volatile organic compounds that are generated by the body when someone is fighting the virus. The test is done with advanced mass spectrometry technology, a chemical analysis made smarter by AI [Artificial Intelligence.] Worlds Inc. uses AI software to map the chemical code of a body reacting to the infection.

The copper inlet and other key interior elements are heated between each breath to clean and sanitize the device so one individual test does not contaminate another individual test. . . .

A test to see if you need to get a test.

Yay...we are all saved.

Reading that tidy tome, I find myself tasked and taxed by the text of the test to true type test as the purpose of the TAMU tilt tends to turn thin.
A solution looking for a problem.
They should just concentrate on the proper and safe way to build a bonfire.

So everyone uses the same mouthpiece........nice and safe when the "sanitizer" fails.

Each person uses a disposable straw to blow into the copper inlet. There's no reason for anyone to directly touch any part of the "Worlds Protect" Covid-screening kiosk with their face, lips, hands or any other body part. It's always possible to think of these "what if" scenarios, but rationally, that needs to be weighed against the risk of not having this kind of near-instantaneous screening capability.

quote
To be screened, a person walks up to the touchless, barrel-like device, which automatically adjusts its height, thanks to Dallas-based standing desk maker Vari. The person blows through a straw into a copper inlet, and gets results back in less than a minute.

Dallas-based Worlds Inc. says its new device that uses AI and high-tech sensors is comparing favorably to PCR tests, which can take up to five days to deliver results. Testing on Texas A&M students begins today with more testing to follow at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A rollout is expected in early 2021.

This is the most extensive report on the "Worlds Protect" Covid-screening kiosk that I have seen, with a litany (if not a wealth) of detail about the history and funding of its development.

It was on the set of that movie, "To Have and Have Not", where Bogie and Bacall met. He was 44 and she, only 19.
