Yes they do want that and more "gun control" so to get More control over everything by Terrorizing most of the people.
NYC, Philly, and others has a huge spike in crime yet still are Defunding the Police, adding "Bail Reform" and worse.
Philly cut Millions to cops and wonder why many cops still don't have Tasers etc. Plus riot after every cop shooting yet Many More get shot Every Day in Philly alone and you hear crickets.
Plus many are getting more "lock down" rules push down their throats that won't help.
PA and Philly just add more restrictions this week or today but will allow more "protests" and rioting to kill more businesses.

With regard to the original question: I imagine that the left sees their plan as an infallible system. If they take away the guns, this will not happen, and if this does not happen, we don't need police. Here, have a flower.
It seems to me that the nature of these events has changed over the last year or so. It used to be that the perpetrator stuck around until the police arrived then self immolated. I lived right in the middle of it for 3 1/2 years.
Arson
burglary
B&E
threats
vandalism
muggings
Theft (personal and vehicles)
Defecation, urination and sex in public and on private property.
Cops wont do jack-sheet. about it. Write them a little ticket MAYBE and let them go. There is ALWAYS an excuse.
BUT, just try to speak freely (not politically-correct)
Refuse to hang around with those that irritate you.
Crack a beer at the picnic table.
Smoke too close to a building entrance.
Park for 5 minutes too long at a meter.
Drive 5 over in a "zero-tolerance zone"...(It's a long list).
Defend yourself against the riff-raff.
And see how fast the jackboots and night-sticks come out.
The PROBLEM isn't the criminals, the PROBLEM is the cops who are too busy being revenue generators and enforcing leftist P-C ideology to be bothered with crime.
Or of course, going to the wrong house to shoot a dog, but hey the arrogant preeks can get away with whatever they want.

The minority shooters in the hood now shoot at legs, buttocks and feet so they aren't charged with attempted murder. Some of that explains the non-fatal shootings.
