To all who served their country.

It's been an honor to serve.
Thank you brothers and sisters.

Thanks also to ALL the spouses (in my case, my wife) who served along with me.
Being a military dependent has it's own challenges most aren't even aware of.
She did an incredible job supporting me while rearing two great patriotic children.
She sacrificed as much or more than I did.

Thanks to those who gave us the opportunity.

Without you, none of it would have ever happened.

I have to admit that I still find it just a wee bit odd when people say "Thank you for your service" to me.

Maybe that's just me. I don't know, I've never asked any other Vets.

There was never a thought in my mind of receiving any "gratitude" from anyone when I joined the Army or at any time during my military career or even now.
I was just happy to serve my country and do what I thought, (and still believe) was right.

When someone says "Thank you for your service" to me now I honestly don't know how to respond.
Saying "You're welcome" just seems wrong to me somehow, I usually just smile a bit and nod my head.

So I'm smiling a bit and nodding my head to this thread today.

Well before Covid I would look them in the eye, stick my hand out and tell them you are welcome.
Because I am awesome that way.

I don't go into all of the drinking and debauchery but as a sailor in the USN I did my share.

I thought that was the whole point !!!!!

Take a bunch of 17-19 year old kids with raging hormones, give them high powered weapons, ammo, and alcohol. What could possibly go wrong.
