Printer Problems (Page 1/1)

I'm too new at this to solve it on my own.

I'm trying (since noon) to print a bunch of parts. I've tried 5 or 6 different files/parts and all do exactly the same thing, so its not a bad file.

What's happening is, the printer starts fine (Monprice, running off Cura via USB cable) lays down a few layers and then between 5-10% just stops. The percentages and time numbers in Cura keep advancing, and the drive wheel for filament feed is turning, but there is no movement or action at the print head.

The prints I did earlier using SD card worked fine, I just got the USB cable to make life easier. Temps are 200 at the nozzle, 60 for the bed and its standard PLA (black) so I dont see any problems there. The only other change I made was to move the spool holder up top so it fits better on my desk, but its still free turning with no drag or restriction.

Any ideas ?

Maybe reflash the firmware on the printer?

What slicer are you using? I use cura, and I've had no problems with it so far.

Do the stepper motors try to move the belt, or do they not try at all when it breaks

Maybe the motors or the connection don't work well once they get a little temperature into them?

I'm just throwing out ideas, since the problem you are having seems really weird.

2 versions of Cura...3.3 that came with it, and 4.7 which is the latest download. Both do the same thing.

By using USB you are adding another failure point to the process. And interruption within windows will disable the printer first. Windows will cut power to USB ports to save power as well.

Think you nailed it. Went back to SD card and no more problems. <sigh> Was a good plan while it lasted.

In device manager you can open the usb devices and set the power to never turn it off.
I have to do that every time Microsoft pushes updates to my PC.

I only had one sheet on hand to work with, and with Turkey-Day weekend cant get to the hardware store until Tuesday, but this trick worked GREAT for me today. Havent found it anywhere online though.

Forget the glass, painters tape, parchment paper, glue or other trick....Cut a piece of 1200 grit wet-dry sandpaper to fit your bed, tape it down around the edges and go to town. Nice and flat, great adhesion, and just untape it to get the model off. No messy plate to clean. Tape another one down and start the next job.

The paper came off the print real easy. I'll be grabbing a 25-pack on Tuesday and let yas know if the idea pans out repetitively or was just a fluke.

Try a pei sheet. I got one from ebay for $20. Just wipe it w some rubbing alcohol and reprint. Stay away from the buildtak sheets, they wear out after a few prints. I was using masking or painters tape w a lil hairspray for a bit. Lemme know how the sandpaper works. Check out the lego tp holder on thingiverse!
