A program or app that can scan a report that is in image form and save it as text? (Page 1/1)

I have some hard copy documents that I would like to save as some kind of text.

It's part of a govt report. (USDA to be exact)
No really very lengthy, it's not copywrited in any way.
I do have a scanner but it only saves scanned documents as image formats.
I need it in some sort of text..
Anything?

Search for "OCR". A lot of scanner programs offer such an option, but I'm sure there are apps that can do that as well.

I've always had good results from Able2extract.

Is the document a PDF?

if yes, open the document as MS word, and then convert it into a word document(text).

Originally was PDF but was scanned and snail mailed to to me.
My scanner appears not to be able to save it as anything other than an image file. jpeg

I will look for the other options already suggested. (OCR Able2extract )
Thanks

Check software came w/ the scanner for OCR again. Most come w/ but not "turn on" in default settings. Or has add-on software not installed w/ scanner software.
