So, I read about this on the "syfy" link here, from maryjane, and that tells me that this story originated on Tickld.

Tickld is a link that is embedded within the "syfy" page. I try it, to see if I can look at the version of this on Tickld, and Tickld says "Page not found."

How suspicious is that?

Those whompum biscuits are a thing of the past. You have to work to get 'em opened nowadays. I had to take a knife and slit the last can I opend all the way around the cardbord can after pulling the seal strip off and even then it wasn't easy as it used to be..
(You used to just peel the strip off and 'whomp' the roll against the edge of the counter and it popped open like magic...'whompum biscuits'.)
