So this "refusenik" won't accept a vaccine that hundreds of millions of people around the world have taken with no ill effect, yet we're to assume that he is willing to accept the immunosuppressant drugs?

I agree, it's not the same. Your dad was addicted to nicotine. Probably had been for decades. For some people, it's impossible to overcome the addiction, no matter how hard they try. On the other hand, all this 31 year old father of two has to do is to allow an injection. Takes about ten seconds. Simple. Done. Over.
