Responding to something that Rick(ady88GT) put up:
The Covid virus as it first became known to the world may have been accidentally created in a lab or purposely created in a lab, and accidentally let loose upon the world, although if it were created in a lab, I think it was more likely created by accident than created with intention.
Last time I did some reading on the subject--just news media reports for non-specialists like me--I came away with the impression that it's as least as likely that Mother Nature created the virus without any help from any of the world's virus labs or virus researchers.
That was quite some time ago, when I was looking for reports of that kind. Although not that long ago either, in terms of "Covid time."[This message has been edited by rinselberg (edited 12-19-2021).]

Gain of function is kinda a thing. You may be aware of such controversial research in China funded by America through a Dr. of virology.

I just fired up Google with these search terms:
origin theory function zoonotic gain ACE2 lab Wuhan "Covid-19"
I added the time constraint of within the past month.
Results are not easy to sort through or try to understand, but based on what I see (and do not see) I remain an "agnostic" on how the pandemic got started. I think all of these explanations remain viable:
- Mother Nature started the pandemic, all by herself.
- A virus lab started the pandemic when research created the original SARS-CoV-2 virus strain by accident. An unexpected side-effect of research on naturally occurring coronavirus strains collected from bat colonies.
- A virus lab created the original SARS-CoV-2, but not by accident. It was Gain of Function research, or something that its defenders argue wasn't Gain of Function research but nevertheless, created SARS-CoV-2.
- There will never be a scientific consensus on the "oranges" (origins) of SARS-CoV2-2 as efforts to unravel the mystery run up against an evidentiary dead end.
