Looks like time has stopped for the rod and piston one

The rod & piston was an actual piston from one of Darrell Gwynn's top fuel motors. His shop is about 15 miles from me and he was having a car show a few years ago and I bought a bunch of the pistons for $1 each.

Speaking of top fuel.

And sadly the driver in the next two pictures died later that season.

On June 21, 2008, Kalitta was fatally injured during the final round of qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.[1] Kalitta's funny car was traveling at about 300 mph when the engine exploded into flames near the finish line.[1] The parachutes were damaged and failed to slow the vehicle. Kalitta's vehicle went through a sand trap at the end of the track and hit a concrete-filled post that supported a safety net.[4] He was transported to the Old Bridge Division of Raritan Bay Medical Center and was pronounced dead on arrival.

Back in 1991 I was working in Greensboro N.C. during the Eastern Air Lines strike.
Of course I did not cross the picket line so I lived and worked for one (1) year in N.C.
While working at T.I.M.C.O. (Aircraft maint) we sold a B727 to Connie(sp) Kalitta and
I ended talking to him for quite some time. He ended up buying the plane and then left
to go to a Top Fuel meet in Ohio.

My father got to meet him also.

From what my father was saying they can get a spectator down on the line when the dragsters launch for a race. They tried to arrange for my father to go, but it was to late so they arranged to have my father there at the Pomona Raceway the next time they were out to do it. Unfortunately Scott died before he returned to Pomona Raceway . My parents went to the race to collect items to be used in a auction style JDRF fund raiser. He got to go into the pit and get right up close to the cars and have meet and greets with the crews and drivers (he spent most of his time with the DHL crew, the Kalittas). I didn't go out to the drags with my father that time, but we have gone out before. Whatching it on TV is nothing like being there. It is a awesome experience I think any car guy should have.
