"NASA delays Mars helicopter Ingenuity's 1st flight to April 14"

quote
NASA has delayed the first flight of its Mars helicopter Ingenuity after the vehicle's last test ended earlier than planned.

Ingenuity will now remain planted firmly on the Red Planet's surface until at least Wednesday (April 14), according to a statement from the agency. The delay comes in response to an anomaly during a test that was meant to see the helicopters blades reach flight-like speeds of 2,400 revolutions per minute.

"During a high-speed spin test of the rotors on Friday, the command sequence controlling the test ended early due to a 'watchdog' timer expiration," NASA officials wrote in a statement Saturday (April 10). "This occurred as it was trying to transition the flight computer from 'Pre-Flight' to 'Flight' mode. The helicopter is safe and healthy and communicated its full telemetry set to Earth."

That's almost half of this brief update.

I just picked up on something that I had not encountered before. It's about the Earth's magnetic field. It relates to some of the discussion that came up previously in this thread about the differences between Earth and Mars. Earth is surrounded by a magnetic field that is generated within the interior of the Earth. Mars does not have a (significant) magnetic field.

I will just go straight to this one particular report that I found.

"Is the Moon maintaining Earth’s magnetism?"

The Moon may be a major factor in [preserving] Earth’s magnetic field, according to new research.

A very brief summary report. Starts with a diagram.

So where did I pick up on this?

From William Shatner(!)

That "UnXplained" series on the History Channel, hosted by William Shatner.

The way I see it, there are two possibilities:

1) Covid
or
2) Systemic racism

No other answers will be accepted. If you disagree, you ain't black.

I question why you, a resident of the city of Glendale, State of Arizona, planet Earth, thinks your opinion matters regarding something happening 174 million miles away on Mars.

A 30-second tribute to the host of the History Channel's "UnXplained" series--William Shatner.

That's what tipped me to this seemingly new idea (5 messages back) that the moon plays an important role in the geodynamo that produces the Earth's magnetic field.

I like celebrities who don't take themselves too seriously. Shatner seems like a genuine guy.
