You might be surprised just how much flammable material is on any warship, even at sea under normal conditions.

HT3 here...
During dry dock and refit doors are either removed or there are cables that restrict closing them.
Flammable materials are not restricted as they are needed for the work and stored in places that normally wouldn't allow it.

During normal conditions if your DC men/women are doing their jobs the doors will be in working condition and fires can be contained. "For the most part"
That is how it should happen. But we live in the real world and most doors and hatches are assigned to DCs that are either not trained or just don't understand the impact of a door not working.
I have had to write up my share of tickets about doors and hatches that were not being maintained. Spent 3 years rebuilding doors and hatches that were not maintained.
You do not want to be on the receiving end of that kind of write up, I have seen deployment delays due to compartment integrity.

All of that is out the window if its a mine sweeper

So now that the ashes have settled, (pun intended), the moral of the story is:

"Keep your doors closed or you might burn your Dick."

AND

"If you burn your Dick it's probably cheaper just to get a new one that to fix the one you have"

It will be interesting to see what transpires at the preliminary hearing.

The comments are interesting, too. I sure would like to be a fly on the wall.

Scrap it and save us some money. My ship (FFG13) started retrofit in 1999 after I got out. 2 years and several million bucks got spent on the project just so it could be sold to the Saudis at a loss in 2001. I miss the 'Mo, or whatever they call it now in the middle east.

I believe the Turks got some of those OHP frigates. Still using those one armed bandit launchers.
