Texas has had 2 recent dramatic ice storm events in 10 years which illustrated why it's isolated system has disadvantages that result in severe damage and impact.

Were there coal-powered generating stations in Texas that actually were in use and then went down because of the cold? Coal-powered generating stations that are not winterized or cold-proofed are also vulnerable to weather like that.
