Cool Tool (Page 4/4)

A typical 2Ah or 4Ah LiIon is smaller, often lighter, then others if have same Ah rating. Plus some "safe" batteries can't handle Amp Draw by many tools. Even "Laptop" LiIon cells can't handle this job & die fast. In the Lead Battery World is similar problem w/ a battery that starts a car vs. Deep Cycle that runs lights to small trolling motor for a boat. If you switch batteries, both will die fast doing the others job.

Part of Why NiCD and NiMH still was used for Tools when LiIon replace them for Laptops. Nixx could handle Tool amp loads way better the LiIon until now.

Fires...
Ryobi & other name brands batteries have LiIon like Dell et al using LiIon batteries for decades don't burn very often means Rare so Rare is next to 0 because have to worry about DOT CPSC & other Govrmnts ordering Recalls or Bans that can cost Million$. Plus have to get UL etc Certs to sell them to have Insurance. Even before that Do Not want a fire damaging the Brand.

Dell ~ 20 years ago had a Recall for Latitude Cxxx batteries that cost close to Million$ for just 1 or 2 batches of batteries. But only a few batteries had fires & got MSM news involved. I supported Thousands of Dells @ that time & never had problems but watch PN of battery to replace under Recall. maybe only had 100 batteries under Recall & 0 had problems. Reason: Dell and Cell makers claim some Batch of Cells has contaminates causing shorts inside of those cells.

Is why above I said stay away from no-name tools or try to "resurrect" batteries that won't charge like YT & other push on dumb users. As soon as you do whatever to "save" the battery, you often override the "chip" that said no way. Some users get Lucky w/ "just" unbalance cells barely under the cutoff volts but often those weak cells keep having problems.

Many "vape" things, phones, etc burn up because many are abused, poorly made or moded but MSM doesn't care about that to have News that LiIon fried.
Examples:
phones owned by fools that put them in places when the phone sees bend or crush loads or high heat like when car park in sun.
Most "vape" things don't have UL rating etc and many maybe well made but fools mod them & those mods can short the battery etc.
Many E bikes, hoverboards & more are crap to start & have iffy batteries & chargers too & often no UL etc marks or are counterfeit.

So...
While LiIon powering tools computers made "right" & owners don't abuse them are very good... W/ tools you have tough plastic shell to protect the cells so very hard hit a cell. Good Batteries have electrical protection too. & even 40v tools only have small number of cells. So "easy" for the factory to test packs & reject if have a bad cell etc. + battery packs & charger test them every time you try to charge. If you Drop or otherwise damage a pack is easy to put them in safe place in case they cook off.
vs.
Any E Vehicle using Hundred(s) to Thousands of Cells are Gambling that:
1. Every Cell is 100% and the "House" say not likely & why GM etc have fires just when parked & no damage to the system.
2. If Only 1 cell goes "nuke" because bad from Day 0 or any other reason... The huge pack is going to burn too & w/ so many Cells can burn for a very long time vs anything small.
3. When an E-vehicle battery is damage in anyway, the whole pack is a "Ticking Time Bomb" that can Cook off to Explode in next few seconds to days or even month(s) later as crews Offloading Fremantle Highway cargo ship is finding out weeks after towing it to port. see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOCSHMOf73Q Insurance and other Tow lots have had E car fires too when damage batteries decide cook off day to weeks later too.

Many versions of that now. 3M & a few others had them Decades ago. Also 3M Roloc have many "sanding" disks & brushes to strip paint gaskets & more but now patent expires & other make them too.

Yeah I didn't think it was new. Just CHEAP and I would've peeled my cruddy decals a year or 2 ago. $15 and 20-30 minutes a door. It did tear up a 4aH battery. Depleted. It worked so well I thought about making a thread here on PFF. I didn't really want to post the before photos with the company logo on it though. The truck is older and it didn't seem to hurt the paint any. I saw 3M versions and I bet they are even better or last longer. I went cheap and easy...like my mom.

I was @ a flea market yesterday & "Hyper tough" a Wmart brand I think had/have "Roloc" style sanding disks in old package...
I have enough 3M Roloc stuff so wasn't worth $2 to get 3 disks just to have.

For sanding/grinding more then a few inches to few feet... I won't use battery tools unless only option. @ the time, didn't have a plugin 4.5" side grinder.
Striping paint on yard post as above post Drain 5 4Ah batteries fast including the only "HP" type I had. Newer Brushless is suppose to last longer but often doesn't matter w/ high drain tools. Many new "HP" tools don't even have the extra contacts for "HP" batteries.

I have newer HP "poll vac" w/ HP 4Ah battery & that drain the battery if cleaning 1 room. These vac have charging in the hanging bracket so "always full" but I just charge w/ rest of them on standard chargers. Party because charge station need enough space on a wall & outlet near & don't have w/o looking @ it all the time. Is good to clean door mats etc often w/o dragging a plugin vac every day or even more often because of pets etc. dragging stuff on feet over them.

⚠️ Note: Like most vac's will hate you cleaning flour, toner, & other fine junk. (Including most vac's claim have HEPA filters.) If you clean flour & some related items... Each time you turn off, Completely empty including Clean the Filter Outside & right away. Flour & more turn to "concrete" when moisture get @ it & wrecks most filter media.
All "Cyclone" types need Time to Spin Up the air in the main stage. If turn on w/ Flour, Toner, etc in that stage then plugs all later stages & often wrecks them costing to replace High $ HEPA media.

"Upgrade" to Ryobi Poll Vac: Some have older units w/ 1 filter. Ryobi & 3rd parties have sell replacement w/ same + a "pre filter" to keep pet fur etc off of the main filter. This setup makes a huge differences to clean them thru the "trap door" so won't have to take apart the whole "tank."
