drive by wire (Page 4/5)

82 T/A it is 1mm which is .040 oversize. you cannot use 2.8 flywheel or harmonic balancer because they are externally balanced and the 3.1 is an internally balanced engine. now if you mean getting your engine balanced at a machine shop yes it will make it run smoother and extend engine life.

82T/A sorry I missed the second part of your post. the dyno run hit 250 km per hour (about 150 mph) @ 5500 rpm. the engine will pull strong to 6500 rpm.The Diamond pistons and Scat rods came from WOT tech. they were expensive but were the only forged pistons I could find.

166

Not 266. Gotcha. Still nice wheel numbers
sleek fiero DEC 21, 06:34 PM
Ls3mach. yes it is 266. enlarge the printout . the hp was done in 4th gear but for the torque they ran it in 3rd gear as 4th is in overdrive and apparenly would not give a true torque reading . I questioned them about that and they said that overdrive did not work for a true torque reading. i am no expert on dyno but this is what I saw and I am still happy with the results and how it performs.

Yeah... when I had the engine rebuilt, almost... gosh... like 17-18 years ago? I didn't really have a lot of money to spend, and I knew much less about cars then too. When they asked me... "do you need us to balance this, or are all the parts good?" I said... "nah, it's all good." So they just assembled the rods, pistons, crank, bearings, etc... without balancing them. I'm quite sure this had a profound effect on the performance of the engine. I could never produce any power above 5,200 RPMs, though I blame it mostly on the cam. I bought something (at the time) called a Fireball cam... I don't know what it is, but it came with the 3.1 crank and rod combination. I went with .030 overbore pistons, so I assume that I'm probably at 3.2 liters of displacement too. Anyway... over time, the power of the car started to go down more and more and more. There was no knocking or anything like that, but I suspect that I had slowly wiped a cam lobe and the car just wasn't producing the power.

Thanks for the response. My goal is that, whenever I eventually take the car out of storage, to have the engine re-assembled again, and install a Crane H272 CAM that I purchased years ago. I would mate it with 1.52:1 roller rockers that I already have on there. It's good to see that you continue to build power. Do you have the specs on the cam you have? I'm wondering how it stacks up to the H272 Crane cam that I have? I don't even know if they sell that one anymore, but it was supposed to take better "advantage" of an otherwise stock engine. I guess slightly longer duration to allow more air in and out. I think my compression is slightly higher too... though I can't remember... at least over 9:1 at this point... better than the 8.9:1 that's stock.

When I first installed it after "assumingly" breaking it in. I only had 100 miles on it of slow driving, and then I started really beating on it. It had excellent power low-end... like off-idle and to about 30 or so. It HAD the GX3, 3.33:1 3-Speed automatic Th-125c. I was about 75% of the way through a transmission swap to a 5-Speed Getrag that only had 30k miles and came from another 87 Fiero. I just haven't had time, nor has it been a huge priority either... but I definitely want to get back into it. I really miss that car.

82 T/A It is a crower 03050.With 1.52 rockers it has 290 degree duration and .469" lift on intake and 298 degrees and .492" lift on exhaust. It is the hottest flat tappet hydraulic cam Crower builds for our series of engines

82 T/A I looked up your crane cam and they still build it. It is a very close grind to mine and should work very well.

Remember, T/A is in Florida..

Last I saw of him, was the 2nd morning of that storm last week.

Crying hysterically and screaming something about the end is here and frozen dandruff is falling and is going to thaw and grow into the alien toupe invasion.

<MeM shrugs>

I dunno, it's Florida. Ya gotta give them some leeway.
