Too expensive to keep pleasure horses and many in cattle sold off (or out) as well.

If you took cows to a sale barn and stayed to watch the sale, it was very possible to come back to your empty cattle trailer and find someone had stuck a horse in it. I saw lots of good horses run thru the ring and never got a bid. A round bale of hay that had previously sold for $35 a roll was bringing over $100/roll. (We're almost there again)

I'm sure that's what I was refereeing to.
I can't imagine coming back and having more livestock than when I started. That's cracking me up. I used to get loaded and pit stray dogs in my friends and neighbors backyards. My favorite was a coworker I kept doing it to and they'd regale us with stories of these mysterious pets later at work. Sometimes he'd lie and I'd get to listen with the knowledge he was full of malarkey.

That's where I think prices are headed though.

Is the barrel half full or half empty?

95.09 today. Was 97 and change, yestrerday.

Meanwhile, the local gas stations seem to be having a contest to see who can drop prices the most quickly. ($3.89 at our favorite local.)

$93.08, this morning.
Gas has dropped .50-.60 over the past few weeks, and is still dropping. My usual place is 3.73, and will probably drop some more today, if the past is any indication.
(Of course, once the Ga "tax holiday" expires, it will jump back up 29 cents. And I suspect that it will. It's scheduled for expiration sometime in August, I think.)

Kind of funny, though...
When gas prices are dropping, people tend to wait longer before they fill up, so they'll drop even more. This has to be helping to depress the prices, if only a little bit.
OTOH, when prices are rising, people tend to fill up as often as possible, before the next price increase, which has to cause the prices to jump. Again, even if only a little bit.
There wouldn't seem to be a great deal of logic to this, over the long term, but everyone I know does it.

Last time it was this low was at the beginning of February.

I did NOT expect that war to last this long

under 80 if steady war level over if it gets nuts

70 if the war winds down lower if a hard stop and they get a peace

The oil industry is really hurting from the war and covid and everything....Sad to see them in such a bad way...their profits are up 40-50%! (That's GOTTA HURT!)

Gas is still on average $4.85 for regular and $5.00 for Premium in Long Beach California.
