I have driven many a mile on plank (board) roads. These, are in comparatively good shape compared to what they look like near the end of the job...

Oh wait--I already said that.
But the artwork here adds some zest.

"Ask Ethan: How Well Has Cosmic Inflation Been Verified?" Ethan Siegel for Forbes; May 11, 2019. https://www.forbes.com/site...ied/?sh=9bcf91f1d07c
This would be a good "read" for anyone who wants to delve into the reasons that the non-specialist media offers a never-ending parade of articles about some variation or other of the Big Bang theory and how scientists are thinking about it.
It's got some "visuals"--some rudimentary data plots and diagrams--and it's not "real long."
Here's how it ends:
| quote | The Big Bang became our theory of the Universe when the leftover glow was discovered in the form of the cosmic microwave background. As early as 1965, the critical evidence had come in, enabling the Big Bang to succeed where its competitors failed. Over the subsequent years and decades, measurements of the cosmic microwave background's spectrum, the abundance of the light elements, and the formation of structure only strengthened the Big Bang. Although alternatives persist, they cannot stand up to the scientific scrutiny that the Big Bang does.
Inflation has literally met every threshold that science demands, with clever new tests becoming possible with improved observations and instrumentation. Whenever the data has been capable of being collected, inflation's predictions have been verified. Although it's perhaps more palatable and fashionable to be a contrarian, inflation is the leading theory for the best reason of all: it works. If we ever make a critical observation that disagrees with inflation, perhaps that will be the harbinger of an even more revolutionary theory of how it all began. |

Where better to look, if you want to make sense of "inflation", than Forbes?

Just imagine, the universe is about 14,000,000,000 years old and the Democrats want to spend $215 for every year since the beginning of time. Now THAT'S inflation.

Now THAT is a novel idea. Instead of using "dollars" as a monetary unit, use " Dollars per Universe Year" this budget is is ONLY going to cost 215 DUY. Now THAT is cheap, so cheap it is already payed for.

I heard someone say on the radio the other day that 3 million seconds ago was the middle of last month, 3 billion seconds ago George H.W. Bush was president and 3 trillion seconds ago Neanderthals wandered the earth.

Many will say that there are still significant #s of Neanderthals wandering the Earth today, especially in the political halls of the USA.
