Also, here is a prediction, watch China swoop in because of Afghanistan's vast reserve of lithium and suddenly the United States will try to re-engage in the area somehow.

Yes, it was good for the arms race which meant inflated military and intelligence budgets. DOD and DOE money Trains.

Makes me sorta sick that the USA joined the Soviet Union communists in the 40s. Armed and built in part by the USA.

China already has a road paving project that will supply those resources up deep into China.
But then, if we want the resources, we will just buy the finished products. We don't have EPA approval to work with it anyway.
As far as China goes, we ship them our resources and then buy back products that we can't, don't want to or are to "dirty" to work with. Then we let them deal with labor costs and disputes, safety, epa, insurance..................oh that's right, they don't have any of that.

See where the engines are located? You can not hear anything inside the plane

I have heard some death toll numbers on this take off. Obviously I can't confirm them, only pass on what was said. A total of 11 people died. 7 on the runway, run over/trampled, 3 fell off in flight and one trapped in the landing gear discovered after landing. Even if these numbers are incorrect, and the total is 7, it is still an INCREDIBLE tragedy.

All the other people clinging to the side of the plane made it? Or were they gone when it landed and no one knows to count them in this total?

I guess we can only speculate? But it would make sense that those people would jump off when they realized the plane wasn't going to stop for them? When did they jump off? Were they the 7 that got killed on the tarmac as the plane sped up to 200+ mph? Don't know for sure but they had to know that they could not stay there in flight. And I know I am assuming and or projecting here, but I think they were just trying to stop the plan, not actually hitch a ride on the outside? So they had to abandon the attempt at some point, was that point to late, and got killed jumping off while still taxying?

Generals and diplomats warned about a pullout, but the president told his team the U.S. was simply providing life support for the Kabul government while neglecting more pressing issues

quote
The president’s top generals, including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army Gen. Mark Milley, urged Mr. Biden to keep a force of about 2,500 troops, the size he inherited, while seeking a peace agreement between warring Afghan factions, to help maintain stability. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who previously served as a military commander in the region, said a full withdrawal wouldn’t provide any insurance against instability.

In a series of meetings leading up to his decision, military and intelligence officials told Mr. Biden that security was deteriorating in Afghanistan, and they expressed concerns both about the capabilities of the Afghan military and the Taliban’s likely ability to take over major Afghan cities.

I read a few reports that the Taliban are now shooting people who try to get to the airport.

This man needs to resign or be removed THIS WEEK. Yes I know that that would leave us with Kamala Harris, but at this point, we have no other choice.

"Afghanistan: Who's who in the Taliban leadership"

Just published. Organization diagrams and photographs.

Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar is one of the four men who founded the Taliban in Afghanistan in 1994.

He became a lynchpin of the insurgency after the Taliban were toppled by the US-led invasion in 2001.

But he was captured in a joint US-Pakistani operation in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi in February 2010.

He remained in prison for eight years, until he was released as part of a plan to facilitate the peace process. He has been the head of their political office in Qatar since January 2019.

In 2020, Baradar became the first Taliban leader to communicate directly with a US president after having a telephone conversation with Donald Trump. Before that, Baradar signed the Doha agreement on the withdrawal of US troops on behalf of the Taliban.

Today, Baradar is the main political leader of the militant group and has returned to Afghanistan.

In a statement this week, he said: "We have achieved a victory that was not expected.... now it is about how we serve and protect our people".

Anyone think that DJT and Mullah Baradar may be getting together again soon by telephone? Or a Zoom conference?

No. Why would they? Trump has no authority to conduct foreign policy. Such a conversation might be construed as a violation of federal law.

Of course, I suppose they could talk about yoga and the grandkids.
