A hole is a damn good call Jake.

I'm sure the Schrader or whatever they might have had could be gunked. All full of river water would be awesome, but I'm guessing you've lived this long by not assuming for the best.

I don't know about attempting to shoot them honestly. The hole would make it better, but I wouldn't want to be close at all. I think the bottoms are known thicker, right? I'll send a tell to my buddy, he has had a class 3 longer than I've been alive. Maybe he has thoughts.

For what it is worth. His thoughts 300 win mag will do it. If it has to be the bottom of the tank. Make a hole in a hill side. Neither of us liked 100 yards. Says and I quote "it's going to run off like a rocket".

My 300 win mags are in his home vault. Browning BAR. I don't own the optics I know I need to get the most out of them, but I've never big game hunted. They used to go on a yearly trip doing elk and the like. I've never been.

Follow up as to the potential strength of the bottles.

"I've Know guys that sawed off the bottoms of O2 bottles , made a 2 legs and use it like a mortar for bowling balls! 3 oz. of black powder will launch a ball out of sight."

Not my information.

Acetylene won't explode without an oxygen mixture inside the bottle. You can drill a hole in the bottle.
I've seen sparks catch a small acetylene leak on fire when I was a welder building dump truck beds. The fire was extinguished with a welder's glove easily.

Oxygen will not explode at all. It will get cold as the pressure drops upon release like R-12 through an expansion valve.

Just curious if any progress has been made on this project?

BTW, I'm advised that the filler in the acetylene tank is asbestos. Thinking I'd only use O2 cylinders.

Someone came along and offered me $5 each for the bunch that I hadn't already gotten rid of and I just had about 1/2 of the origianl ones left (the acetylene bottles) and I happily said "load 'em up".
I had already shot holes in all the propane and most of the oxy bottles with the SKS and, a couple with the .270, which I decided was "overkill". ..
None of them took off like a rocket, but 1/2 the place smelled like propane for a few hours. The ones I shot holes in, the scrap yard took after all, but I shot a LOT of holes in them out of that battle pack of 7.62 Tulia ammo.

Still got plenty of ammo of all kinds, but I left all my firearms and gun related stuff with my son when we moved. I will probably leave it there permanently for him and his brothers except for the 20 ga Mossberg and some shells. I won't be needing them in my new life. Gave him my USMC NCO sword and my USMC fighting knife as well.
Turned 72 yesterday so it's just time to do these kinds of things.
