In the same 2016 election cycle that put Donald J. Trump in the White House, Joel Micah Greenberg (age 31) ran as a Republican candidate for the office of Seminole County Tax Collector. He won. He resigned his office on June 24, 2020, the day after he was arrested at his home by federal agents when the first of a series of indictments was filed against him by the U.S. Department of Justice. This was part of a federal investigation that began under President Trump's second U.S. Attorney General, William Pelham ("Bill") Barr.
