Trolls live under bridges, drink too much and smell bad.
They like to cause trouble to people that just want to enjoy the bridge.

The right wants freedom FROM things as well...

Freedom FROM censorship, thought-control, compelled speech, and political correctness.
Freedom FROM forced compliance or acceptance of religion.
Freedom FROM bans and prohibitions for no other reason than feeewwiiinnggggssss.
Freedom FROM being bothered, pestered, hounded, harassed until "somebody" gets their own way.
Freedom FROM mindless obedience.
Freedom FROM jack-booted life-and-death enforcement of all of the above.

IOW....Freedom FROM lack of freedom.

"When the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility, [then] they ceased to be free."

That's for everyone, across the boards. From the most "woke" progressives on the Left, to the most conservative-minded "rightists" on the Right, and everyone in between.

It's been presented as a literal quotation from Edward Gibbon's "The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" but that may not be the most accurate attribution.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo garnered some serious "style points" for using it during one of his regular state-level coronavirus briefings, on April 22, 2020.

I put the word "then" in square brackets because I like the wording better without it. It's superfluous and detracts from the crispness of the assertion.

Much like the above quoted text.

"Trust me."

Remember, long time ago now, when I had a similar bone to pick with that quotation from Dr Who..?

quote
"To lose is to win, and he who wins shall lose."

I think I said that it would be improved by adding another word to it:

quote
"To lose is to win, and he who wins shall lose all."

Or maybe I preferred this wording:

quote
"To lose is to win, and he who wins loses all."

I remember very clearly that we posted about this, but I wouldn't be able to find that thread anymore. Not without a lot of work. I actually tried but I didn't get anywhere.

I've got a quote or 2 of my own.

"Orwell was an azzhole"

and

"Doublespeak is verboten around here"

The problem is that now the Forum is censored by a moderator.

We aren't allowed to say what needs to be said, because someone may be 'offended'.

That may work in Europe and places where people wear their feelings on their sleeves. It doesn't work where I am from.

Food for thought....

If one finds a comment from someone to be offensive, maybe one should look inside at oneself and figure out why one let's another's words affect them so.
Is it the message?
Is it how it's delivered?

The interchange of thoughts, through conversation, can be rough and tumble sometimes.

People need to learn to deal with confrontation.

The first sentence of that, which I highlighted using the (literally) maroon-colored text option, is 100 percent baloney.

I see some issues that have been going on with some particular forum members about the New Topic category checkbox selection that has to be given by the originator of any New Topic. That's nothing compared to "being censored by the forum moderator"--an assertion which I categorically reject, because I see with my own eyes that no one is being censored by the forum moderator.

Here's what I believe is a useful rule of thumb for the originator of any New Topic:

quote
When in doubt, use the "Politics" checkbox.
