IF, I remember correctly, the purge valve was much simpler in the 70s/80s and usually sat right on the canister itself.

It's truly absurd the kind of things that manufacturers are putting in cars now. If you connect your phone to Bluetooth in your car, you can kiss any hope of privacy goodbye. Your phone has certain settings and security measures that prevent your personal information from being read by companies and such, but your car has no such clauses. In fact, when you buy a new car, you essentially sign a Terms and Conditions list that allows the manufacturer to obtain information about your age, race, religion, sexuality, emails and messages that you send and receive, and more. Furthermore, they can collect driving data and forward that to insurance companies, who then alter their rates. And it's only going to get worse from here.

I wonder what kind of information they're collecting from my Crown Victoria, Fiero, or 80s Corvette? Hahah...

I think the only car we have that can transmit, our Ford Edge. My 2009 Ford Explorer has Microsoft Sync, and a microphone built in... but I've not detected any signals emanating from the car. Not even standard WiFi channels. I only get a BlueTooth request for a phone that my dad doesn't have anymore (it used to be his car).

My '18 Colorado is a hot spot which is pretty handy from time to time. I keep a small laptop in the truck with a car power adapter. No question "they" are harvesting info from the vehicle but they can do the same with your cellphone I guess. So far, I haven't been arrested or insanely over charged for insurance due to my 150lb right foot but you never know!

BTW, It is now Christmas season- the Christmas Pixie is back!

This probably borders on needing to go into the Politics & Religion section... but it doesn't have anything to do with Right or Left politics, so here goes...

The automotive insurance lobby is extremely powerful... and there are only a few organizations that exist to fight it, like the SEMA ACTION NETWORK. For decades... I mean, DECADES... like, going back to the early 1970s... the insurance lobby has been directly responsible for lobbying our local and Federal governments (US and Canada) to intentionally alter the way vehicles are made, SPECIFICALLY to reduce payouts. For example... the change in bumper designs in 1973... (5 mph impact bumpers). That wasn't for pedestrian safety, that was to limit insurance payouts.

There were dozens more. Reducing engine compression from what people had at the time (often times over 10:1) down to 8.5 was to reduce horsepower to limit accidents caused by people speeding... again, to limit payouts. Then again, changing the speedometer so that 85mph was the fastest that was displayed... that was again, to prevent people from speeding to limit accidents to limit payouts.

Plastic headlights, the elimination of pop-up lights, making hatch glass illegal in all but truck-based vehicles... all these things were done because of the insurance lobby. It's completely destroyed the automotive industry. Cars are so expensive, and they honestly all look like **** today.

Any time I sit at an intersection, and I look at the cars around me, I'm shocked at how shitty all the cars look. They're horrible... almost every car out there looks like a Buick cross-over, which looks like a Rav-4, which looks like a Mazda 6, which looks like a Porsche Cayenne...

If things don't change soon, it'll be effectively illegal (or completely impossible) to drive a classic car (or anything that doesn't conform to today's standards) on today's roads.

I agree 100%, in my world a proper automobile has 2 doors and 3 pedals.

My toy car is an 88 and my daily is an 06 Tiburon coupe, 5 speed manual. It has personality plus and is way fun to drive.
With a bit of luck it will be my last car.
