One big problem M.J. with the Volt.
Technology with EVs is constantly evolving.
I am totally in favour of developing and using EV's, they have many applications.
but I don't think we can just totally replace internal combuston vehicles ad hoc.
Both technologies will have to coexist in the marketplace for a while. |

EVs have been used for perhaps 75 years.
The problem is EVs are not economy driven. Government mandates.

The tech on the CyberTruck is something to note. 48vdc architecture, steer-by-wire, FSD, exoskeleton (bed with no wheel well humps), suspension, camera tech (doesn't even need side mirrors), plus a body that won't rust.
I'm getting one. Honestly the biggest factor of those that trash it is mainly political (most all EV haters come from that angle). EVs are not without its cons, but on net they are superior to ICE vehicles and will be the future.

They could be superior. I don't think they're there, yet. (A lot of the "glitter" I see in EVs is purely technology for technology's sake. They need to back up a step or three. But the same could be said for ICE vehicles.) That's based upon the premise that they can fix the battery issues, and the infrastructure can be built out to support them. Some places will be ready. Some places most certainly will not.
Where do I get my opinions from? I worked for the power company for 30 years. Most of my duties included electronics, including remote control of substations and automated metering - aka smartmeters. I am very much of the opinion that the fewer electronic gadgets there are to fail, the better off a piece of equipment will be. It's why I will never buy a washer, dryer, or refrigerator that has a microprocessor controller. It's just not needed. We've kept food cold and washed clothes for a century, without all the electronics. Why now? Just "glitter". Same with newer cars, but especially EVs.[This message has been edited by Raydar (edited 12-04-2023).]

In theory, I have nothing against EVs. What I object to is Government manipulation. We will buy electric cars when we are damned good and ready.
And, you can pry my throttle from my cold dead, grease stained, gasoline smelling fingers. We are car people, at least most of us here are. We love the sound and the fuel feel.
Have you ever tried to watch a Formula E race? It sounds like a pig being thrown from an airplane. All you hear is the wind and a lot of squealing.
I love music and that includes the sound of a high performance reciprocating piston engine. This is a symphony and art worthy of any museum:
