Storm report from north of San Diego: the rain gauge in my back yard showed 4" which is the most I have seen in almost 15 yrs. So the heavy rain showed up but the high winds were a no show. Unfortunately, following the advice of the alarmist HOA and local media, I brought everything inside that might become a projectile at my house and for a neighbor who is on vacation. In the morning I could easily see there had been no wind because my pool wasn't full of leaves, which is the normal outcome during Santa Ana events. Ditto for my yard and the neighborhood.

But this WAS different: around every pine tree in the neighborhood there was a halo of fallen, yellow needles on the ground everywhere I went. These needle shadows were symmetrical around the trees, not elongated to one side or other by wind, but were significantly larger in diameter than the individual trees themselves (I'd guessimate maybe 2x the diameter). I WISH I had taken a few pictures and videos because I have never seen anything like that before.

I've been busy with work and didn't really look into the situation over Southern California but I assume if there had been a LOT of mudslides that this would have dominated the news and come to my attention.
