Look at where it hits the ground and you can see the rocks behind the rainbow. It is a bit harder to discern on the right, which was a bit further out. On the left side, I did what I venture few have done, stuck my hand in a rainbow! No fancy or trick editing. I only added title and a few stills. It was truly amazing.

Did you grab the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, or had someone else already snagged it?

Patrick, I was at "golden" intersection of time and place. Short of being in a plane, I can't ever recall being able to look down at a rainbow only a few feet away. Even if I had seen the glitter of gold, I'd have left it under the care of the "menehunes", I learned long ago, to keep good karma intact, respect local lore. Haleakalā is a very special place by any measure, but to Hawai'ians, it is sacred. I wouldn't move a pebble. The image below is a view looking beyond, into the crater. This volcano makes up the bulk of Maui. A simply incredible place to absorb some good energy, plus the views are spectacular.
