Stihl sells their own version here, called a durocut head. double or quad.

The problem though is that it can be very damaging. You can't go around trees, or concrete, because it'll literally strip the tree bare and possibly kill it all together..

Whatever attachment is used, to avoid stripping bark from trees or chopping down flowers and ornamentals, place the blade guard against the plant and go around it. There will be a small amount of grass left around the base, but the plant will be undamaged. After a few scoldings from my wife for chopping her plants, I learned to do this around her Iris's, Jonquils, and Fire Bushes.

what is this blade guard thing you speak of?
I've heard of it once but my Stihl guy told me real men don't use them...

What the heck are you cutting? I have a Stihl 2 stroke trimmer and barely use any line. I got family member a Stihl electric with the two speed motor, when trimming around fences and such if you put it on the lower speed it has enough power to cut weeds but not damage vinyl coated fences and not powerful enough to cut the plastic line.

Are you addressing me?

If so, the answer is 'Anything I want to'.

This is why I like a gas trimmer: throttle control. Mine takes .095 line and will cut most anything from just above idle. I need to replace string a couple of times a year and if I didn't cut up against a block fence, I'll bet I could go all year on two 6' pieces of line. Of course I live in the suburbs in the desert, not in a tropical rain forest like maryjane.

Mostly, I just use it to chase scorpions. I leave the tarantulas alone, though. We have an agreement.

I would use a shotgun for the tarantulas.
