The assassination plot of 1914 against the Archduke succeeded in killing the Archduke, and also his wife, the "Archduchess"... if that's titularly accurate. So, even though that remark rings a bell--compelling all who read it to head for the nearest Taco Bell--it is (facially, at least) self-contradictory. Although I may be reading it at a superficial level and so, missing the point.

Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it.

Isn't it a matter of historical record that someone of some historical significance already said that, and said it not yesterday or last week, but quite some time ago? Which begs the question, did (does) "olejoedad" know that? Has "olejoedad" just repeated this moment of history--and kind of "old" history at that--because he didn't know that someone had already made history by recording that very same remark, that "Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it"? Or is "olejoedad" having something of a joke with that remark. Like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Or... that's as far as my thinking takes me.

I'm reminding you of your apparent lack of historical knowledge.

Nothing more, nothing less.

And I am reminding you in a gentle way, so as to not offend your sensibilities.....

If that's a kind of general remark--"my apparent lack of historical knowledge"--well, then it's a kind of general remark. I won't respond to it.

But if that's a reference to the assassination of the Archduke (and his wife) in 1914, I did know how that connects with the outbreak of World War One. I knew that long before this "wack putin" thread had its Born On date, about 24 hours ago, if memory serves me. (A gratuitous recitation of "if memory serves me".)

If anyone is confused about why I chimed in about the Archduke in that way, in response to something that "maryjane" had said... that's a very small thing. Not worth trying to untangle it. Chalk it up to the "fog of war". Not just any war, but World War One.
