Don't like smokers or beer drinkers or non-pronoun users or gas-burners or leather-wearers or meat-eaters or rebel-flag-flyers or a boat-load of other things ? Offended ? There is the door, and one way or another its gonna get used. Because I really don't give a rats ass, and am YEARS past trying to accommodate an entire planet. **** 'em all.
You do you and I'll do me and we will probably get along fine. Try to take over and no we wont.

Politics and religion. Yep.
The smoking thing is an occasional issue. Every now and then while in a non-smoking area someone will fire up and I've even heard them say they know they shouldn't. Get your lazy rear up and go to the smoking area. We all sat here to be away from it.
The women who smoke get interested in me. I can't do that anymore, be around them.

The new forum software functionality has been in operation now for nine (9) "forum days." Or is it ten (10) ..?
I think it's had a calming effect here in the O/T section. Maybe too calm. Almost no action at all, here, today, as far as "posts."
I wonder if anyone else has anything to say about it, in so far as the other sections of the forum, like Tech. Even at this still early juncture.
This, of course, also "bumps" this thread, in case there are those who are not yet even aware of it.

Be careful what you ask for.
Imagine for a moment that we have two fictitious forum members, Ernest T. Bass and David Duke.
Now Earnest T. likes to throw rocks and is fond of the phrase “Your mother wears army boots!”, while David D. likes to parade around in a white dress and pointy hat, carries a torch and hurls offensive epithets at anyone who disagrees.
The edict goes through Mayberry that anyone who uses unkind words will be made to stand in the corner with Otis, and all the good citizens abide by the rules.
The result is that Ernie still has a pocket full of rocks and Dave still wields his torch, but you will no longer hear them coming. And all the good citizens of Mayberry are a bit more hesitant to speak their mind for fear of being harshly judged by their neighbors and instead, spend their nights looking over their shoulder because Dave and Ernie might be lurking in the darkness.

David Duke does a daily internet radio show. Live for an hour. Recorded for another hour. Never heard him use epithets (an occasional "bast***" being an exception) followed by an apology for saying it. You do use them frequently though, as does 82whatever. He's on Rense Radio at 10 to 12 Eastern 11 to 1 Central. Archives run for years on his site. Find 3 examples of him using epithets. You have been challenged.
I really really dislike Duke because he's just a greasy politician using people for his backdrop. Still, he doesn't stoop to using childishness like name calling. He also doesnt know when to shut up. It's an important thing to know. Hint hint.

You've been practicing better behavior since last week. You're relapsing today by disparaging strawmen theories but you seem to cycle like that. Reality proves a different result than your theory. You can't just leave well enough alone. What makes you so intolerant and wanting to cancel people/speech? Resorting to phony claims to pretend you're being offended? Lol.[This message has been edited by sourmash (edited 10-31-2021).]

Is it even directed at people here or was it something a former poster in the O/T is doing in the other sections? I didn't go looking. But it was posted over there and brought here.

A tactic used to silence speech and cancel people is to make a situation so intolerable that an authority will (or feels they have to) step in to stop the noise level in their ear.
The turmoil and noise level comes from the person/group that wants the message canceled, because they know they can't defeat the message content that they want canceled.

I'm gonna go ahead and get in the corner with Otis. He's always got some of the good stuff.

I don't know how many forum members may have been directly affected by this new anti-harassment policy implemented by Cliff Pennock (possibly it was just one or two) ... but if this new policy is solely responsible for the apparent dramatic drop off of posts in O/T, then it's a sad reflection on what draws (or used to draw) certain people to this area of the forum.[This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 10-31-2021).]

Compromise and tolerance is directly responsible for the current state of affairs in American politics. There comes a time that compromise and nicey-nice conversation with people that want to restructure our form of government must stop.
My family has a long military service history. I have ancestors that killed people in wars, and were killed in wars fighting people that expoused the views of several of our current political figures.
Censorship of this Forum because some people become offended is wrong.
