That's a really vigilant troll...

But if folks could actually state why they don't like something, that might actually benefit the person who posted the content...

I have been saying this about the PFF rating system for years. And yes, I agree with the same application elsewhere
If you don't put a reason, you don't get to rate anything. Anonymous ratings are perfectly fine, but anonymous (void of reason) should unacceptable. Think about this for a second, what is a rating for? If it is positive, the reason is clearly because people are in agreement,,....right? Maybe. Or maybe they just rated positive because you may have been funny at being different? But a negative could have more reasons behind it. Not just disagreement, but maybe political reasons, racist reasons, misspelling reasons, grammar or punctuation? I remember a thread some years ago where a member just used capital letters and never lower case. This set off a firestorm of negative comments. People negative for MANY reasons but I think that most of the reasons are because people are abrasive. Maybe I am wrong tho?
Regardless, I think a reason needs to accompany a rating or the rating shouldn't count.

Let me suggest that it is simply human nature.
Some people are much better at communicating and some are very poor at it. But to lump everyone into the basket as affective communicators and then assume they are arrogant based on your perspectives is a little.......arrogant.

And for what it's worth, I have you rated as positive. Just because I disagree with a person on a topic or two does not make me rate a negative.

It seems you didn't read the flow and are agreeing with me without realizing it.

Willie bulked everyone into one group of cowards. I responded that it's arrogance to assume he knew the reason people didn't comment.

It is far to easy to get caught up in bulking groups together and assigning characteristics to them. It is part of our human nature. It happens to Educated and uneducated, rich or poor, informed and uninformed. And yes, I did just bulk everyone in a labeled group and assigned them like characteristics

The thumbs up and down rating on YouTube is used to suggest videos you might like in the future. I understand why this is but it could also lead to an echo chamber where you only get recommendations of one type of videos. You like rescuing puppies? You get tons of animal rescue videos in your feed.

The absolute funniest are videos with a huge dislike to like ratio. The White House channel is one. It got so bad they turned off the comments. I'm surprised they haven't turned off the thumbs yet as every video is hugely disliked.

For this very reason I do not rate youtube videos unless I follow or subscribe to them already, like F1 videos for example.

I give some Youtube videos a thumbs-up for one or more of several different reasons:

1) to save it to my favorites list so that I can find it again later
2) to encourage the artist
3) or just because I really like the video

I never down-rate anyone or anything for the reasons that I stated above. If I have a problem with something, I will either discuss it or ignore it.

Or you call people names by changing their username or you insult them in some other manner. Stop patting yourself on the back for a behavior you don't actually adhere to.
