Steve, I believe you called that one correctly. Just like most businesses, companies attempt to stay competitive but, will always take advantage of an opportunity to make a greater percentage on ROI. It's the way things work but, in this case, our elected officials have not only encouraged higher prices but have cut the resources to ensure it happens. We get the government we deserve. This shut down is just another opportunity to raise prices and yet, still shows our nation's vulnerability. Let such a group get access to both fuel/pipe line systems and the electrical grid at the same time and this nation will slow to a crawl if not re-established quickly.

Tomorrow's replacement costs of both rack & retail fuels have always been factored in. Not, what it cost to produce/refine/and deliver it yesterday. Very very few retailers raise their fuel prices without being told to by their wholesale rack provider.
Gasoline and diesel are commodities and are priced according what they are traded at on spot at NY Mercantile Exchange and Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Gasoline is around $2.22 here. There may be a glut on refined fuels show up here in the next few days if the Colonial doesn't go back on line and retail prices are expected to remain stable ... or drop if refiners have to cut back production.[This message has been edited by maryjane (edited 05-11-2021).]

When Republc Radio read the release yesterday my thought was, typical lying sacks of feces eaters. They take from the poor in this case. Higher fuel costs harm the poor the most. And they have no alternative but to pay.
These groups don't go after the rich. It's cities, municipalities and not the Sachler family that addicted millions with opiates.
If it's not government, they're allowed to do it by a government. My guess is it's head is where big tech is prolific, has it's hands in all major communications networks and has a Western style government: Israel.

It's pretty much known to be a Russian federation group. They don't do the bulk of the ransom lockouts. What they do, is sell/rent etc the software to others, which they refer to as their 'partners' and Darkside takes a cut of each ransom payment. I have little doubt tho, that the Russian govt has their hands at least partly in it all and use darkside when it's to the govt's advantage. Who they provide the service to is debatable. It definitely could be Russians, but highly doubtful to be Russian state. The Russian criminal mafia is totally international and completely tied to Israel, and those people do not like Putin's Russia. Putin cast off the oligarchs that installed him and gave the country back to Russians. Israel is where the criminals escape to once they're on Western police agencies' wanted lists.

We don't need the Russians or other underworld criminals to raise fuel prices, we have the Obama / Biden / Buffett syndicate that is already doing a fine job of it.

Clinton did the same. One of his 1st acts was to raise energy taxes. Hits the poor harder than anyone at fillup time.

The software doesn't belong to the Russians, and they didn't create it... it's freely downloadable on Bit Torrent via TOR.[This message has been edited by 82-T/A [At Work] (edited 05-11-2021).]
