I really need to take this advice though for my home owners insurance. I have a "person" for my home owners insurance. It's a family friend (on my wife's side), and we have them for both homes, and I have a very sneaking suspicion that I could / should be getting a lower rate.

I don't remember what part of the premium it falls under, or what it's called but the agent can evidently claim costs on his end and it gets added to the total premium. In 2022, after we got our address and license/registration all changed to reflect new residence, my new agent physically raised his eyebrow when he looked at my old policy. Asked how long I had been with this agent and I told him about 15 years. He told me flat out, 'he's been getting to you almost every year, it's allowed and some agents do it, but we don't. Our costs just don't change and I doubt his did either. Did he have an office or did you do it all on line?"
I said, "Yeah,he has an office, off to the side in a corner of his barber shop. he was my agent and my barber..always getting insurance calls whle he was cutting my hair"
More eyebrow...

He then said, well, I see your wife's tickets and accident claims, but nothing on you..when was your last ticket or accident?"
"Accidents, none for very long time, I think in the late 60s,maybe early 70s I had one. My Last ticket was 1982, maybe 83, a 45 in a 35 in Victoria Texas"

Another eyebrow.. "You haven't had a ticket in nearly 40 years? "

'Nope, I drove a lot but most of it on dirt roads and in pastures"

Anyway, my new Progressive premiums are a LOT lower than my old one. (part of that may be because I no longer live near Houston metroplex but more because of the agent's portion.) thieven bastard!

Just curious... I have two cars insured right now (not counting my Crown Victoria which is under collector insurance, that I won't mention here)...

Some data points:
- Two cars insured, I have a 2015 Ford Edge, and a 2009 Ford Explorer Sport. Both stock, neither one is modified.
- Neither my wife and I have ever been involved in an accident that was our fault.
- Neither of us have been in an accident in over a decade, and the accidents we did have, our cars were stopped, or even parked... and someone rear ended us.
- Neither of us have had a ticket in over 15 years.
- I work from home, my wife drives only a short distance.

For these two cars, I pay ~$2,500 every 6 months for insurance. Explain to me what I'm doing wrong? I've changed insurance several times, and it all seems to be at the same amount.

In General:
Your Kid(s) can/will mater just being beyond 12-13 years old even if doesn't have permit or license. IF you didn't say or enter on forms kid & age getting new insurance,,, can find can/will Void the policy claiming Insurance Fraud. Example: Insurance Co Retroactively Cancels Coverage After Accident - Steve Leto www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5P0UMz7o-E

When kid get license even if have own car... all will see price hike.

If own a house or not affect car price. Bundling home w/ car(s) Will reduce all as much as 20% each.

Drive low miles, some I'co is < ~ 7000mi/yr, may get a discount but must ask & I-co will ask/show miles etc now & can/will ask or more proof months later too keep the discount.

Many states allow discounts for Defensive Driving Courses. Follow your state rules Before you bother taking any course because some states do not recognize AARP & other courses. Many give 5% first time then 10% for Advance DD and have to keep taking every year or two after to keep the discount, again follow your state rules. One drive w/ certs only get One car so both of you need to take the course for 2 cars. Kid will need this soon as get a license.

Changing I co's can bite too. You may have "clean license" from state but I co have No History w/ you.

Credit Report they get may have other things that raises prices. Banks & More get much more data then you ever see in report you get from Equifax, Trans Union, etc. Most states allow this.
see https://consumer.ftc.gov/ar.../free-credit-reports
Plus many Credit Card carriers etc give "free" Credit Scores as part of your account like Cap One. If you have a low score alone often will affect Insurance Cost in many states even if some state Ban from using a Credit Report because Reports & Scores are 2 different animals.

But:
Even if you're "Low Risk" & get all discounts... I-co Prices are Rising Nation Wide because of High Crime & More.
Worse:
You live in Fl w/ Flooding & other problems there in just last few years & even tho you don't have Damage you still pay for all others.
Some I co's no longer underwrite in FL NJ & some others for various reasons reducing competition so get higher price too.

E2A--> these are only some common discounts/issues.
Also avoid companies selling "state minimum" policies, They to just that & @ high cost for people w/ nowhere else but often Not Enough Insurance because those limits haven't been raised in Decades in most states.

Haha... story of my life. There's been a couple of times in my life where I've gotten close to being a "master" of something, but then I move on to something else... and then that which I was mastering, continued to improve while I went in another direction. So a jack it is. As long as it isn't a jack ass. But I have fun...

Ugh... this kills me. And I think this is the exact same thing I'm dealing with for my home owner's insurance too. Both of our insurances go through an agent... and clearly, I could be paying less but I'm paying for their building. It's an old friend of my father in law. So that's why we've kind of stayed with it... and I've been reluctant to leave it. But it can't hurt to get quotes, right?

For four vehicles and two drivers I pay $1873 a year. I hate the act of paying bills so I pay annually rather than monthly. IT works to to ~$156 per month.

Vehicle's include:
2016 Honda Pilot
2003 Honda Accord
2002 Chevy Silverado
1987 Pontiac Fiero

The Pilot has full coverage, if I recall it is 100/300. I forget but the Accord/Silverado may still be full coverage, but I may have dropped them to liability only. My Fiero, which has sat for years, iis liability only. Insurance went up ~7% this year. I have not switched or shopped around in years. For now it all seems low enough that I can shop around but I may be chasing only a few bucks considering it is four cars and two drivers.

Hank, check out Grundy. I didn't mention it (I don't think), but I also have collector car insurance for my 2002 Ford Crown Victoria LX-P74 which has really low miles, and just sits in the garage. I pay $183 a year for that car, and the agreed-upon replacement value is something like $14k.

For your Fiero, you can get collector insurance (as long as it sits in a garage), and you shouldn't have to pay much more than say $150 a year for the entire car, with full coverage on it... against fire, wind storms, a terrorist, whatever...

I'm with you, I have a classic policy with JC Taylor ( similar to Grundy) for my old 1952 M38A1 Military jeep; actually I need to add my second M38A1 to the policy as I just this "rust-er-ation" ready for the road. Heck I even have other policies with State Farm for my motorcycles...I may see about moving my 1999 Ural to Tayor next year when/if I re-register it as an antique. I like my toys, all I need is more time to use them.

Oh dude... you can't just throw that out there and not back that up with pictures! I want to see that awesome military Jeep! Do you have any pictures? I love those old Jeeps.

I saw that some company in Taiwan was building brand new bodies, frames, and everything for a whole series of military "Willys" ? Jeeps from back in the day. They offer a few kits including some version for Civilian Defense, to like the model used on Air Force bases in the 60s, to the ones used in WW2. I gotta find the video I saw it on now. But man, when I moved to the home I'm in now... I specifically told my wife... "We cannot buy a house with a big yard, or a lot of garages." Tampa is notorious for 1.5-2 acre lots that have your run of the mill home, with like... 2-3 random garage buildings. We saw so many of them... but I knew if I got one of those houses, I'd fill every garage bay, with cars parked outside. I couldn't do that to my family... haha... at least not yet.

Once my daughter is through college... I'm buying a warehouse... hahaha!

Here is a pic from last week. They are both essentially stock... The OD one has been modernized a little with turn signals and more visible tail light lenses. The yellow one is crusty and dusty but 100% fully functional. I am just to the point of getting it back on the road. After the Army the yellow one was used by the forest service in North Carolina. The one that is OD should actually be blue, from what I see it was a radio jeep with the Navy and should be blue.
Yesterday was spending time working out the good ol' vacuum wiper motors. I will add that these are more modern that you think...they are keyless entry, keyless ignition and push button start ( foot push button starter)!

As for a warehouse...I don't have a warehouse per say but I do have a 30x 50 pole barn/ garage at home...one I bought for the garage 30x48 two story garage, and access to my father's rental which is another 30x 50 building. The nice thing with rentals with garages is they pay for themselves and the we get the use of the garages for free.

There are two manufacturers of old jeep body parts. MD Juan in the Philippines, and SGI from India. MD Juan has a license with Stelantis (sp, who cares they are a crap company). Most jeeps ( except for some early prototypes) from 1971 and before have a significant amount fo interchangeable parts; this means that the after market support is VERY broad to the extreme that you coudl likely build a complete jeep from straight reproduction parts, udy, frame, steering gear, transmission etc. Since I have military jeeps there is also was/is a fair amount of NOS surplus parts, although that seems to be dunideling. just in this year I have gotten NOS wiper motor, black out driving light bulbs, fuel pump spacers at a reasonable price...the part costs in the ballpart of the shippnig cost.

Dude, those are awesome, I'm not even sure which one I like better. Obviously one "looks" nicer, but the other one looks "well loved" as they say. I don't really know the subtle differences between the various years, either... but I always thought it looked really weird how the Jeeps during WW2 had the back canvas top sticking way up in the back. It seems (I'm guessing), that by the Korean war, they'd eliminated that crazy rake look on the canvas top, and made it more flat (like what you have for both of those), which looks really cool.

EDIT: Although I was born well after the Vietnam war was over, all the cartoons I watched in the 1980s (like GI Joe, etc.), the "Jeep" was the quintessential military vehicle we saw in basically every movie... whether it was Wargames, Iron Eagle, etc... it was all the dark green Jeep (or painted bluish grey if it was on an Air Force base). I guess today's generation grows up with the Hummer as the modern military vehicle (or even the MRAP I suppose).

This is so true. I rented out my house in Fort Lauderdale and put my Crown Victoria in the garage as a condition of the rental. It was a family friend (don't get me started), and she had kids... who used the Crown Victoria as a storage rack and would literally throw their bikes into it. At the end of that 2.5 rental period, they had kind of dinged up my Crown Vic... I was not happy.

The house I'm in now, I'll rent it out when my daughter graduates from high school. It has a 3-car garage, with the two-car garage separate and off to the side, with the single car garage that has access to a side door, all the outlets, and access to the garage attic (detached garage). My thought is that when I do decide to rent out the house, if I need storage, I'll probably wall off the 2-car from the 3rd car garage, and put two cars (or whatever) into the 2-car garage and lock it up. I'll rent out the house as a single garage w/ the house.
